I'm not into the genre but I read this book along time ago and I've been interested in reading more of the series.
So what I remember is that the story is set in a magic-based world(duh)and there are items with strange names that can give the user certain abilities(double duh!).
Another thing i remember is that in the story the hero gets caught and ends up getting tortured in some sort of carousel or flying train that takes him as close as possible to death without killing him.
And the last thing i remember is that in the story there's a sword that can change it's shape depending on it's use. There's a line that said, "As he waved the sword in the air, it changed it's shape to better cut through it."
