My first novel THE HIVE will be released in mid-Ja
Interesting. Yesterday evening an e-mail came into me from Baen Publishing to let me know that my manuscript that I had submitted to them over a year ago was not quite what they were looking for. Just a bit too much romance between my two main characters. I would have felt bad if not for the fact on the same e-mail que was a note from my small press publisher letting me know the PDF of the type set pages for my book would be e-mailed to me in the next day or so. This is the final go around before the printing and release in January 2009. I could paper my wall with rejections but it only took one yes to get a contract on my first Science Fiction novel.

I would like to say, as far as submissions go, I found the site "Editors and Preditors" VERY helpful. A good majority of publishers and agents accept electronic submissions these days. Prinitng and sending 400 pages is pretty expensive. I found my small press publisher on this site.

Getting back to Baen, they have some of my favorite authors under contract, however, with my novel, I hope for a repeat with their accusations editor in the same spirit of Elvis Presley when he brought his demo tape to a major raecord company and was told, "Son, I think you should go back to driving a truck."

Chris :D

If it wasn't for publishers/record/movie companies taking chances on peoples ideas then we would have crap in this world. George Lucas's little space adventure was bumped around for years before 20th century took it up and even then they were skeptical. There is Dave Mustaine of Megadeth being booted out of Metallica. If it wasn 't for that Metallica would be a monpoly in the music world but they aren't. People should not underestimate uniqueness. I look forward to seeing your work published someday, just post some picks and links to amazon when that happens :)

Now that sounds quite intriguing!

My observations on Baen are that they publish a certain type of novel and a certain type of author. Nothing against them or their author stable (I've read quite a few of their books!) but this novel really dosnt sound like their cup of tea.;)

As for the book that I have coming out in January, I beleive I have placed enough posts of significant content that I can give you a web address to at least look at my temporary promotional site. I will be up grading this in December.

The story is really done in the classic hard science fiction style that I enjoy a lot with a romantic sub plot. Baen did not like the sub plot at all.

Chris :)
