Interesting. Yesterday evening an e-mail came into me from Baen Publishing to let me know that my manuscript that I had submitted to them over a year ago was not quite what they were looking for. Just a bit too much romance between my two main characters. I would have felt bad if not for the fact on the same e-mail que was a note from my small press publisher letting me know the PDF of the type set pages for my book would be e-mailed to me in the next day or so. This is the final go around before the printing and release in January 2009. I could paper my wall with rejections but it only took one yes to get a contract on my first Science Fiction novel.
I would like to say, as far as submissions go, I found the site "Editors and Preditors" VERY helpful. A good majority of publishers and agents accept electronic submissions these days. Prinitng and sending 400 pages is pretty expensive. I found my small press publisher on this site.
Getting back to Baen, they have some of my favorite authors under contract, however, with my novel, I hope for a repeat with their accusations editor in the same spirit of Elvis Presley when he brought his demo tape to a major raecord company and was told, "Son, I think you should go back to driving a truck."
