Winter Is Coming

From The Twoer of the Hand

Winter Is Coming
Around the Web. Yesterday 7:31:00 PM ET by Johnny Winter Is Coming is a brand new blog devoted to the HBO adaptation of A Game of Thrones. It promises to be updated daily with news, rumors, speculation, etc. concerning the production of the pilot and eventually (hopefully) the series. I was wondering how to cover the adaptation here, but I'm thrilled to find another site willing to discuss the show in greater (and probably far better) detail. Thanks Phil for the notice.

Good job on this scoop!!! This is the second time this month that someone has beaten Werthead to the punch... I only wish it had been me... that'll never happen though.

In it, he muses about the title for the series and specualtes that "A Song of Ice and Fire" is too long and supposes that the title will be "Game of Thrones" as it used in the HBO news release.

I would submit that "Ice and Fire" would also be a good choice for a title.

I dont mind 'Game of Thrones' if 'A Song of Ice and Fire' is indeed too long. It fits well with the theme of the books I think.

That's a great blog. The most interesting entry to me was the one about how many other pilots HBO has lined up. So there's no guarantee that ASOIAF gets picked up but he sounded pretty optimistic about it anyway. Great stuff.

The sad thing is, none of those pilots looked very good. I also think the Game of Thrones sounds less fantasy-ish and might swing more of the non scifi/fantasy fans out there. I'd think of Rome and Tudors before I think of LOTR when i hear that title.

Here's an update on the pilot. They are looking for a casting director.

The most exciting part are the inclusions of the first and last lines...

"We should start back."

and

"The things I do for love."

Man, that last line should really be a grabber! I can already hear people shouting at their TV screens, "WTF!!! NOOOOOOO!!!!"

Welcome to the Club!!!!! Just avoid the Renly club...

I'm nearly at the end of my second reading of the series, and I must say that Jaime has grown on me more the second time around than any other character. He is certainly one of the most complex characters, and while I still don't "like" him I do admire what he becomes over the course of the books.

I didn't like him at all the first few times I read the series. Though, I now read it around 3 times a month. :p Since then and especially after joining this forum and the people helping point out things I would never have noticed, I think he is one of the most interesting characters in the series.
