I am looking for the names of a few books. I seem to be rereading favorite books from my young adulthood (I am much older now) and have been buying lots of used books. Once in a while, I remember a few details from a book, but not the title or author. I'd like to see if anyone out there can solve the problem for me. I hope this is the proper forum. If not, please direct me to a correct one (or, maybe a passing mod can move it for me).

Book 1 - The book(s) (or stories) concern a group of people exploring space. Their ship may have been called Daedalus. One of the crew was a psychic who through her paintings (here studio slide out from the side of the ship) directed the ship to stars containing life. I don't think this was about lost colonies or anything like that.

Book 2 - The book(s) (or stories) concerned a group of psychics who were under the protection of the FBI and headquartered in (I think) Nevada. They traveled from place to place in 'FBI Lincolns' (I remember that term specifically). One or more of the psychics may have been addressed as royalty.

ETA -

Book 3 - A man wakes up in the far future on the 'Ultimate Battleship' or something. At any rate, an extremely advanced spaceship. As I said this is the far future (Possibly toward the end of the universe)

Book 4 - A man (possibly) journeys to the far north (on Earth) to discover an advanced, but hidden city, possibly left by aliens.

Book 5 - On a large spaceship journeying live a large number of children. There are no adults and the children are taught by the ship's computer. Two of the boys are gay, or at least one is, because one of them finds a girlfriend. This is not a pornographic book. I believe that the ship is heading somewhere to start a new civilization or something.

I would appreciate it if anyone could come up with some suggestions for me.

Thanks,

Bob

Not quite 'Earthsearch' I don't think. The book I am looking for would have certainly been before 1994, but that sounds interesting. I'll look into it.

Thanks for the welcome, BTW. I have not posted an intro, but I will definitely do so soon.

Thanks for the reply.

Or, if not quite that adventurous yet, stop by Introductions and tell us a little more about yourself. And welcome to The Chrons!

Neither of the descriptions ring bells for me, but hang in there; there's plenty of other candidates to weigh in.

Book 4 might be on this list

Polar Genre Fiction

I was thinking Lovecraft - At the Mountains of Madness, but like most books it's set in Antartica not the Artic.

One story that springs to my mind is Black as the Pit from Pole to Pole by Howard Waldrop and Stephen Utley. Its a (kind of) sequel to Frankenstein and its a pastiche of, oh, everybody - Wells, Verne, Mary Shelly, Poe, Melville, hollow earth theorists.........

Wacky stuff, but unforgetable.

Book 1 rang a bell - but that was probably because of reading James Joyce and the name Daedalus.

Wikipedia suggests the following (amongst a lot of other possibilities in a page titled 'list of things called Daedalus")

The Daedalus is one of the rocket ships in 'Farmer in the Sky' by Robert Heinlein (1950)

Tamman1969

Book 2 is Brain Twister. It is part of the THE QUEEN'S OWN FBI TRILOGY: Brain Twister, The Impossibles, and Supermind by Mark Phillips (Pseudonym for Randall Philip Garrett and Laurence Mark Janifer)
