A Question re Gardens of the Moon (spoilers)

I recently found my copy of Gardens of the Moon and am a bit over halfway through. I'm a bit confused about something that just happened.

Quick Ben just 'outwitted' Shadowthrone in his own Realm (pages 395-8 of the Bantam paperback). Shadowthrone called him 'Delat' and cursed him as he escaped to his own Warren. They had just made a deal that I didn't really understand either. Could someone help me?

Or perhaps I'm not supposed to know what happened precisely at this point?

For all my confusion, I am muchly enjoying the book. I like the Darujhistan crew especially - Kruppe, Rallick Nom, Crokus, Coll, and Murillio.

I can't remember but all I can say is expect confusion in this series as it's a big one to read. I am still trying to figure things out in book one by reading book 3 which hopefully will offer some explanations. As some of the readers here will also comment on is don't expect Erikson to hand info to you on a silver platter

Quick Ben's real name is 'Ben Ap Delat' I think, as to the other bits, all i can say is read on!!

The deal becomes clearer as the story progresses.

As does Quick's relationship with Shadowthrone, and Ben's name and prowess.

Ahh Quick Ben, my favourite character from the series (like you couldn't tell ).

Brilliant character and I don't really remember the exact deal they made (I think it had something to do with the hounds and Hairlock though??) but I remember the part you are talking about. Like others have mentioned, probably find out the end of that deal in about another 50 pages or so.

And like already has been mentioned (and you would've guessed from that part anyway), Quick Ben was formerly known as Ben Adaephon Delat and was a high priest of Shadow once (I hope I am not spoiling anything because I remember that this revelation took place in the part you mentioned in the OP). You'll learn a lot more about him and the rest of the Bridgeburners in Memories of Ice.

Great thanks guys! It already is a bit clearer. I'm now up to the part where Lorn slashes Coll's thigh in the Gadrobi hills. It feels like hell is about to break loose with Paran approaching as well as, as far as I can gather, Shadowthrone's Hounds. Very much enjoying it!
