I've got all of the Tintin books and several other comic books by Herge. It still remains one of my favourtie comic strip/book series of all time. I also have the more recent Canadian animated series of Tintin, which I quite enjoyed.
And lucky to get there...there was a move a few years ago to remove the books from sale, due to their "old-fashioned, racist claptrap”.
Luckily he has many friends, many of whom put forward the point that the average reader can and does make allowance for the prevailing ideas at the date of publication...
I dont care about the racist stuff of Tintin. He was my childhood hero just ahead of Prince Valiant,The Phantom.
If old fashioned, more racist times are to be censored in old works than we would lose many quality comics, pulp era SF,Fantasy etc
I recently realised that as a kid i didnt read the comics in order. I will now and refresh my memory. Recenly read an early black and white Tintin before he was famous. Even without color Tintin is awesome
