I got hooked on Phil & Kaja Foglio's Girl Genius about a year ago. It's steampunk comedy. Yeah, i know the nature of steampunk usually isn't funny, but Phil Foglio can't help but be funny. Full of literary puns, Jagermonsters, action and romance this is a really satisfying series. I think they are up to volume 6 or 7 by now?
Agatha is a normal student, except nothing she builds ever works. But her parents Lilith and Adam don't mind, they love her just the way she is. When a rogue clank (steam powered robot) attacks her city, she soon finds her self kidnapped by Baron Wolfenbach, along with other childen he holds for ransom onboard his zeppelin castle. When Agatha realizes she is a spark (a sort of steampunk MacGuyver), she must keep her secret and her friends safe. She escapes the Baron and his handsome son Gilgamesh, and joins a travelling show. The travelling show performs plays about the Heterodyne family, the brothers Bill and Barry, and Barry's wife Lucrezia, who has a history with the Baron. No big deal, except Agatha soon learns that she is really the daughter of Bill and Lucrezia, and Lucrezia is sort of back from the dead and looking for a host body.
that was probably a really aweful summary, but this is really a great series! and lucky for me, my local comic shop always has the newest issue for me.
Anyone else read this series, or am I out on an island all by myself being lonely with my comics?
