K well first off i think that sandor clegane isnt feeding the worms...the hound is.The friar brienne and company meets near the mouth of ruby ford says the hound is dead. Then proceeds to take them to the monastary to meet the head priest reknown for his healing skills. On the way up they see a huge novice digging a grave and continue on where they meet the soldier turned priest, who does confirm the hound is dead that he buried him hisself.later he mentions the grave digger again for no good reason...i believe the grave digger to be sandor clegane he may have adopted another name at the monastary to protect him but this priest healed his face of the burns and his heart of the ravages of his past...this is the jist of what i remember some small details maybe incorrect but the meat of my guess is there.

Welcome!!! I'm glad you're here.

Okay, did you think of this all on your own? I'm not trying to be sarcastic... 'cause if you did, that's excellent. Really excellent.

On my first read, I had a nagging suspicion that brother on the isle might be not telling the whole truth... and I completey missed the large limping gravedigger shoveling dirt onto Sir Hyle. But you've guessed what the community here has surmised regarding Sandor and the Hound.

doggone and here i was pattin myself on the back...one my friends is a huge hound fan ,pretty much told me i was dead to him cause he couldnt possibly let me continue to live knowing that i thought that...it should be anyday now=)J/K

ps do you guys have any live chats ever

I did not mean to burst your bubble... I meant congratulations on seeing it for yourself! If I had a dollar for every time I posted beginning with "Hey, I just noticed something new, you guys will love it..." and then another dollar for every time the next post was "Boaz, we discussed this six months ago in another thread... and, uh, by the way, you took the opposite view of what you're stating now." But you're not doing that... you actually had an original thought. Good job, keep 'em coming. The process of discovery (or even rediscovery, in my case) is always exciting!

ps do you guys have any live chats ever
Not that I'm aware of...

Yes keep it coming, because eventually someone will stumble upon something none of us even though of! I tell you when I first heard of R + L = J my jaw literally dropped and I my eyes got all blurry!

I'm down, as long as Boaz brings the booze! Something tells me he's got the good stuff!

What the heck is with the Boazlovefest? I did not know the man was a celebrity in this parts......

So heres the deal, 49 out of 50 thoughts I or you have will have been beaten to death over and over again already. A quick search usually keeps the most egregious errors at bay. While I for one dont mind talking about things for the thousandth time some people will...so be prepared. I would appreciate if people would have their own "take" on the subject....For Example, its one thing to post you think Lady Melisandre is evil, its another thing to post she's evil and she's manipulating Stannis into reveal the Others full power so she can bring about armageddon. One post doesnt incite much discussion, the other will likely get you called an idiot once or twice but some discussion will come about.

So 49 out of 50 will be old hat threads...but theres always that one that sparks the whole freaking boards all over again. Tysha posted the last new idea that comes to mind and people I hadnt seen post in years were back and talking about it with renewed enthusiasm. Good times.

So to paraphrase one of my least favorite sports commentators....if you post, have a take and dont suck.

I love the whole Sandor being the grave digger theory, it brings tears to my eyes to realize that my favorite character is still alive (99.9 % sure... that is). Always makes me wonder though if any other important people floated down the river to end up in the care of the monks....... .... JK

There ain't no Hollywood ending for anyone in this series. Sandor's dead, baby. Sandor's dead.

ahh but my fine clansman...have you ever known martin to shy away from killing his charaters off...nay say i...he would have described his death in all its gore=)

O RLY? ;)

As well as the points djinn raises above, consider these.

- Sandor's horse, Stranger, is in the stable on the island.

- the monks on the island wear face masks that would conceal the Hound's disfigurement. (I don't believe that Sandor's face has been healed, by the way.)

- the gravedigger has a limp. The last time we saw Sandor he had a leg wound.

- Brienne is never told that 'Sandor Clegane' is dead: only 'the Hound'.

- Dog shows an interest and affinity for the gravedigger.

Basically, it's completely clear. Sandor is the gravedigger: GRRM has all but hit us over the head with it. :)

Yes, but I have learned, quite painfully, not to get my hopes up about characters in this series. If I believe he is dead, and then ends up alive, then I will be pleasantly surprised. If I believe he is alive, and GRRM simply says, "no, the monk ain't Clegane, Clegane's dead", then I won't be disappointed.

This is about self-preservation, not wishful thinking.

Raven's got me sold. I'd almost want him to not even appear in the rest of the story, just live his life in humility and peace toiling with his newfound Brothers.

Eh, if you read the chapter carefully it's pretty obvious.

I for one hope Sandor doesn't live out his life peacefully, though. He has too much unfinished business. ;)

I would be very surprised if Sandor is dead. (I read a lot of mysteries as well). I would need to see DNA evidence after all those hints. Good call Djinn. No harm putting ideas out there. Not everyone here has been here since the flood. :)

But what the heck will GRRM do with him next?

Sandor, could be a fighting priest and end up defending Sansa, Arya (along side her wolf), Brienne? Train a priestly fighting regiment?

Will kill the Mountain? (Isn't that in the cards as well?)

Will have an encounter with fire and overcome it. Maybe he will rescue someone from the flames.

Die defending, or end up with a Romantic relationship with (well nobody liked my idea of Arya, after she is a little older), how about Brienne? They could Sansa's left and right.

Be an important member of the Black?

If Sandor does die, who will kill him?

End his days as a serene gravedigger?

My theory is that Sandor ends up fighting Qyburn's un-Gregor. A showdown between the two brothers has been brewing since AGOT. GRRM kept Gregor "alive" to keep that showdown an inevitability. My full theory is explained in the first post of the following thread. A good discussion about the Hound occurs afterwards, too.

Thanks viZion!

The Ungregor's days are numbered.

I don't know, though, there is going to be a lot of work for gravediggers. Could be a growth career. The Westeros economy is tanking.

I think Sandor has to continue being a "true" knight, despite his disposition and some glitches. I suppose this is already known, as well.
