More bad news for anyone trying to break into the ever-shrinking short fiction market place.

Following on from the news that F&SF is going to a bimonthly schedule, it's been announced that the April edition of Realms of Fantasy will be the last.

This is terrible news -- RoF has been a significant market for short stories (not to mention a great magazine to read) for a couple of decades and was fast approaching its 100th issue.

Apparently, at the time of the announcement (January 27th), editor Shawna McCarthy was on holiday in Italy and unaware of the decision.

:(

Definitely not good news. I read the magazine a few times but never picked up a subscription. Most of the stories they published for some reason just weren't what I was into, kinda like fantasy lit. Sad to see another market go, though.

Here's hoping two more will open up!

Oh poo. I was hoping once I got a job I could get my subscription started again, but now I won't be able to. I always liked it, the stories were great, though some not to my taste. I still have all my issues, so hopefully I will be able to milk enjoyment from them for years to come.

In the last year or two:

Asimov's and Analog have been shrunk.
F&SF is skipping issues.
RoF is gone.
YBF&H is gone.

Methinks I'm beginning to catch the hint of a pattern.

Everyone needs to continue to support the sci-fi and fantasy community. We here at Story Forge have insider scoop with the sci-fi entertainment industry...(SyFy) for instance...and see a steady rise in interest. So keep it up!!!
