Unrevised, unedited Pride and Prejudice releasing

Two other possible updates of Jane Austen might be:
  • Scents and Sensibility (incorporating themes not dissimilar to those in Das Parfum)
  • Mansfield Bark (which would deal with lycanthropy)

EDIT: Having googled, I see that the latter has been used before, but as a "suggested" Disneyfication. See http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2004/oct/07/janeausten for more examples.

I am so going to buy this. But I am setting myself up for a bit of disappointment, too :
It just can't be as awesome as it sounds. It's simply not possible.

****, I thought I had the scoop on this. Come to think of it, I think I skipped this thread the first time I saw the headline. If only it could be edited to include "Zombies"...or moved to the horror section where the unsuspecting would click if for nothing else than to complain that it's not a horror book...

Oh, I'm pretty sure it will be incredible. You can read the first few pages on Amazon. First I read the first few pages of the Jane Austen original on Amazon, and then this one.

It's pretty hilarious what he's done. He didn't completely re-write it or put it in a Jane Austen world. No. He like "re-mixed" it. Using a lot of the original text. A LOT. But just re-writing parts of it using a lot of the same wording.

I've heard that it might be on its way to becoming a major motion picture. And, as The Procrastinator already noted, this will most certainly start a new trend of "updating" classics.

The Grapes of Wrath of Khan was the first thing to come to my mind :)

Anyway, I urge everyone to check it out on Amazon. It's like the book equivalent of Snakes on a Plane (but more clever). You've just got to give it a look-see.

Sounds dreadful. A bit like what Hollywood does to a good story. Never read any Jane Austin and don't intend to but surely it should be left alone!

I have to admit I'm sceptical about whether it will be any good, but I do have a zombie obsession.

I have a debilititating weakness for zombie stories. Ill get to it soon enough.

But Zombies are so last century. We all watched Dawn of the Dead when younger but then we grew up. Great if done as a comedy I suppose a la Shaun of the Dead.

I have to admit I've never read a book with zombies in- just seen far too many zombie films and read 'The Walking Dead'.

Alright, so I did read this. I love Jane Austen, so it was a no brainer for me. good thing, too, with all the zombies about.

The thing is, this book was good, readable, interesting, and the additions generally flowed into the story rather well. But, even though this was a novel idea, and in the beginning of the book made me laugh aloud numerous times, by the end I wanted only the original story and the new action would draw me back out of the story when I was so enjoying being completely in.

I think it was still a good idea and will draw new readers to discover Jane Austen that otherwise might'nt have.
