Like snakes? 42 feet long, 2500 lbs.

"The snake that tried to eat Jennifer Lopez in the movie 'Anaconda' was not as big as the one we found."

LOL.

I thought I saw a TV programme that was trying to find the longest snake which debunked that length.

And I've just found this on Wiki (Python reticulatus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia):

Furthermore, unscrupulous zoos will often exaggerate the claimed length of their snakes in order to lure in tourists, sometimes to ridiculous lengths, such as the claimed 49-foot snake in Indonesia which was subsequently proven to be less than 22 feet.

And Wiki also suggests that these pythons are not the heaviest snakes, simply ones that are long but relatively slim.

This is still one of the most amazing photos I've ever seen.

"The snake that tried to eat Jennifer Lopez in the movie 'Anaconda' ..."

Never mind the stupid movie & plywood cast, that robot snake deserved an Oscar...

FWIW, while we were watching a documentary on animatronics, Anaconda's stainless-steel half-a-snake was featured. Um, the 'middle' was anchored to a pallet full of pneumatics etc. The studio cued the 'party trick', so the snake 'struck' straight into camera...

One of our kittens was playing in front of the TV. She hadn't noticed the program before, but some reflex shrieked 'incoming'. She leaped back about a yard, landed hissing, fluffed to thrice her usual size. As the robot snake halted, drew back, she bounced forwards, whacked it across the chops, erm, TV screen...

Satisfied the monster reptile was dismissed, Kitten looked around for her toys. Then she saw my wife's ornamental 'egyptian snake' on the sideboard. ANOTHER Snake !! Kitten bounced up, gave that an almighty whack which rocked it and almost dislodged its tongue...

We were too busy holding our sides, desperately trying not to laugh --which would mortally embarass any cat-- to complain about the damage Kitty had nearly caused...

So if we have 49 foot snakes today; does that mean that the fossil found in Columbia was just average ... or maybe a small one?
It would be very hard to believe that the biggest snake that ever lived just happened to get fossilized, the chances of fossilization being very small at best.

Enjoy!
