Last night at the local library I was reading the inside jacket of the novel Windhaven, by George RR Martin and Lisa Tuttle. I noticed the part about GRRM in the back of the book that stated he was currently working on the 4th novel in aSoIaF with the title "A Dance with Dragons" and we all know now that is not the title. Also same thing in the note about the author in A Storm of Swords, working currently on the 4th novel A Dance with Dragons. My question is, when did he change the title? And also will another sequal be titled such?

Also is Windhaven any good? I suspect it is and I will probably check it out soon.

From what I've herad, his original plan was to leave a 5 year gap in the story and go staright into ADWD, but that didn't work out very well. He had to scrap this plan in favor of writing AFFC, hence the unusual delay in getting book 4 published. So, AFFC will pick up right were ASOS left off, with no 5 year gap. ADWD is planned for release after AFFC.

Here is the current "planned" chronology after ASOS (subject to change, of course):

A Feast for Crows
A Dance with Dragons
The Winds of Winter
A Time for Wolves (if 7th book is necessary).

Of course the seventh book is necessary! I'm just trying to picture myself finishing the final book and I know I'm going to be incredibly sad!

Me too. However, I do have great hopes that GRRM will write several Dunk and Egg novels after he's completed ASoIaF. Please, please, please....:)

I'd prefer books chronicling Robert's rebellion, myself. I love all the snippets of the history of those wars Martin dabs around the place. Part of why the world is so fully realised, I guess. But I am pretty sure I read somewhere that Martin has no intention as of now to wirte anything beyond the current series.

As for the titles: GRRM must have a pretty good idea what each book is going to contain to have the titles sussed already. I mean AGoT, ACoK, and ASoS were all fairly accurately titled, so maybe then the seventh title, A Time For Wolves, already has some story behind it? Or maybe I'm just clutching to the hope it will never end...

I'm trying not to get my hopes up - if the gap between each novel is as bad as the one between ASoS & AFFC then I'll be drawing my pension by the time the last one comes out! :(

i agree, i think a book about roberts rebellion would be really great. but 1st things 1st. finish the series 1st, then we can plea for the ' prequels' haha....look what star wars did to all of us, asking for pre-quels, and NOT asking for prequels. but in htis case...def asking for one :-D

Although he may have been joking, the only book George has mentioned writing apart from completing the series and a few more Dunk & Egg tales is a possible book featuring Aegon the Unworthy as a Flashman-style anti-hero.

He hasn't ruled out a prequel focussing on the Rebellion, but it seems to be something he considers unlikely and unnecessary. It has been suggested to him before, but he does not respond enthusiastically, from what I hear.
