Has anyone read this authors books?

Ive been trying to get my hands on one of her books for ages from my library. Then a kind souled friend of mind loaned me Dragon Prince, the first book in the Dragon Prince series.

I've only just started it, and so far it's not a bad read. A little slow paced because she includes a lot in the story, but not too bad :)

Just wondering if anyone else as discovered this author and what the rest of her books are like.

Shes not one of my favorites. I've read Dragon Prince, or tried to rather. I found it rather long and boring. Same with the others in the series. Although the type of magic used was fascinating.

I think that's why I am sticking with the book so far, it's the imaginative angle on the magic :D (goodness that sounds complicated doesnt it)

The pace is slow though, it's a shame that authors go for slow paced stories when building their worlds and crafting their characters.

I know what you mean, i ended up skimming it. the book could have easily been chopped by two thirds, and kept the scenery and character developement and magic, and been a far better read:p

I really loved that series, even re-read it recently. I found the pacing to be quite fast - for such large books I got through them quickly. The one I can't seem to get through is the Exiles series. Ugh. I'm on haitus from it now.

I've read a few of her books. I was never much impressed by the Dragon prince stuff- Skybowl etc, though I did like Jihan for some reason. Hoep you enjoy them better than I did.

However the Exiles were good :) Anyone know when Captal's Tower will be released? I've been waiting for ages.

Although Melanie Rawn is not a fave author of mine I have enormous respect for her, simply because of the amout of care and research goes into her novels.
In case your wondering im not 2 fond of her because all of her books are a little too romantic for my taste, but other than that there ok reading material.

I've got the opposite problem, can't get through Exiles but have read the Dragon Prince several series' a couple of times each.

I have several of her books and have yet to read them. I have read The Golden Key which was a collaboration of three writers, Kate Elliott, Jennifer Robertson and Melanie. I liked the book, it was very well written. I didn't care for the repeativeness in the first section, but overall it was good. And that's why I bought some of her books. I have the Exiles ones, I believe.

I have read most of her books. Thought they were very good and well written. Another author who makes you anxiously twiddle your thumbs while waiting for the next book to be published.

I found them all to be reasonably easy to read, not too much to intake all at once. They were the type of books that kept me up nearly all night.

I discovered her when I checked out "The Golden Key" several years back and ended up reading and falling in love with her Dragon Prince and Dragon Star trilogies. Her storytelling is excellent, in my opinion, and she's one of my favorites. I love the world she created...fell in love with the whole sunrunner thing!

Here, here! Melanie Rawn rocks! I was unfortunate in that I had to start with Dragon Token first and when I went to the library, I read Skybowl and Stronghold afterwards. At least I finished the trilogy! Melanie's style of sorcery is very unique!

Has anyone here read her new book Spellbinder yet? A totally different book from her others. Looks like she did a lot of research into modern day witchcraft. I thoroughly enjoyed it.:)

My personal opinion is that while she has a good grasp of world building she's pretty bad at characters. I've read The Golden Key and Dragon Prince.

The middle part of The Golden Key was written by her and I felt it was pretty slow and uninteresting the first time I read it. It also felt very preachy. Like the author is trying to tell the reader how things are supposed to be.

I found Dragon Prince to be very entertaining the first two thirds but then I almost lost interest in the story. Why? This story has a lot to do with dragons, right? Dragons are emphasized on the covers and in the book descriptions. But when the "secret" of the dragons was revealed I was appalled. It's such a synical approach to dragons and what they mean to the Dragon Prince's kingdom that I almost felt like putting down the book at once and not reading anything more. Too late, since I had bought all books in the trilogy and the second trilogy as well.

Can anyone tell me if the dragons are more important in the upcoming volumes? Because the way they are described in Dragon Prince they have no value other than what they can do for the country.
I can't go into detail without disclosing this secret but if you know what happens in the following books, please let me know if the human/dragon relationship gets less cynical.
Thanks.
Ericf
