Looking for a book, girl being persued in nightmares

Hi, I'm looking for a book I read a few years back. It was about a young girl that kept having nightmares about running though some woods with something after her. Always it would catch her and kill her, as it did so she would wake up. At one point in the story she is made to see a therepist of some kind, after which she sees the therapist in the dream. They are both chased and killed. She finds the next day that the therapist is actually dead, and discovers that because the therapist had taken sleeping tablets, when she 'died' in the dream she could'nt wake up, and therefore died in real life. There is a little more i can remember about what the 'thing' actually is, but dont want to spoil that for anyone reading this that may be interested in reading the book . Ummm.... just a stab in the dark.... Yarrow by Charles de Lint. Its been a while since I read it, but I think it is similar.

Thanks, checked out that book but its not the one must have been at least 10 years ago that i read it
