I've looked for discussions of Jorah and his activities, but all I found was his one entry into Wiggum's tournament. I know this has been discussed, but I cannot find it. I want to talk about Jorah. So let me cut to the chase...

Where is he? What will he do? Will he show up at the Wall? Will he search for Lynesse? Will he stalk Dany? Will he seek revenge upon Barristan? Will he try to earn a pardon by selling information on Dany to Qyburn? Will he search out Varys? Will he join a Free Company?

Or is Jorah out of the story completely?

I hope so. He's my least favorite character and I would love it if his distasteful ass got dropped to the bottom of the sea.

i'd have to agree with tsw... Jorah is so loathesome i hope he gets killed horribly.

He'll pop up again. I'd bet he'll try and sell Dany out, but I don't know to who. Stannis, maybe? Cersei is slightly indisposed as of aFfC...

Also an interesting question is his frame of mind. I don't remember any description of what he was thinking/feeling as he was "banished"/ Does he still love Dany? Does he now hate her, and if so, will he seek vengence? My guess is that it's a combination of both and while part of him still loves herf another part wants him dead.

So, where will he show up, if in fact, he does at all? I don't see the Wall as being a possibility, unless the storyline goes along a path that takes Dany to some sort of final confrontation in the North. Would he be welcome in King's Landing? My guess is that his usefullness is limited, if he actually has any. There's also the small problem that resulted in him having to leave in the first place, so he still needs a pardon of some sort, which I don't see him getting.

I think he'll stay in the East and gather a force that might one day threaten Dany, but that might be too simplisitc.

I was disapponted to find his character became so...conventional. He was not bigger-than-life anymore when he left Daenerys. There is almost nothing this character can do to make himself interesting anymore.

I think he'll show up at the wall, Jon still needs to tell him The Old Bear's dieing words about his son.

This could happen away from the Wall though. I don't see Jon spending the rest of the series there.

Well, one scenario that I'm imagining goes like this...

Roose is not having any luck gaining the alliance of Bear Island. Maege is closely associated with the rebel, Robb Stark, and so is persona non grata with the Iron Throne. If Jorah was willing to give information on Dany and then take over Bear Island and ally it with the Boltons, then I think he'd receive a royal pardon very quickly. If the Boltons were able to kill Maege, then all Jorah would have to do is marry off his neices to Bolton bannermen. If killing Maege is part of the deal for Jorah to come home, then I'm not sure he'll do it.

Jorah is intelligent and has some knowledge of political and military matters. Presumably he fought with the Starks in Robert's Rebellion. He served against Balon Greyjoy. He's ridden with Free Companies. He guided Dany in her experiences among the Dothraki and her subsequent journey to Qarth. Yet, Jorah is not a proactive person. He reacts to situations. The only initiative he ever took was to ask Lynesse for her favor. After that, he only reacted to her... til she left him. Then he drifted until he met Viserys. He's just followed Dany since then.

Another scenario might be that Jorah goes to the Wall to find his father. Since the Night's Watch are sworn not to interfere in matters of the realm, they'll not deliver the King's Justice to him.... they'll leave it to Stannis. Stannis might kill him. Or Stannis might chop off some fingers and make him the Lord of Bear Island... remember Stannis is having difficulty gaining the loyalty of the Mormonts too.

The third scenario for Jorah that I can picture is him returning to Lys to find Lynesse. He'll plead with her to come with him and she'll refuse. So he'll murder her and then kill himself. He will finally take the initiative back in their relationship.

Or he could return to being a sellsword. He might join Griff's mercenaries. If that happens, he'll be returning to Dany incognito mayhaps.

I kind of like Jorah.

OK, he's creepy to Dany at times, self-serving and hypocritical, and a slaver to boot, but he's also physically brave, insightful and has some of the best lines (in AGOT particularly).

"The common people pray for rain, healthy children, and a summer that never ends. It is no matter to them if the high lords play their game of thrones, so long as they are left in peace. They never are."

Probably my favourite quote in the books. :)

As for what will happen to him, I have a theory on this...

He'll pop up again. I'd bet he'll try and sell Dany out, but I don't know to who. Stannis, maybe? Cersei is slightly indisposed as of aFfC...

Or, maybe, someone closer at hand, not Westerosi at all, who has unfinished business with Dany and who knows Jorah (though they have no reason to love each other). I don't think we have heard the last of Drogo's former kos...

Jhaqo and Pono... hmmmm. The dosh khaleen would love to have Dany join them.

I can't see how this scenario could be more than a sentence or two in someone else's report to Dany, for instance.

Is there any chance that Mormont might come into contact with Tyrion, now that the latter is in Essos? It might very well put a spanner in the works (permanently or temporarily), delaying the "eventual" joining forces of Tyrion and Dany for a book or two.

I'll admit, you're the only person I've seen for a while who can talk so blithely of delaying an important, but by no means climactic, plot development for another couple of books. Not even GRRM would be so blase about the series going on for that long. ;)

I can see him getting redemption but where and how (and what it'll cost him) is anyone's guess.
I do however think he'll end up on the Wall like his old man, maybe as a punishment for his crimes(Stannis making the decision for him), perhaps as a dutiful son fulfilling his father's dying wish.

Strictly speaking, we're still waiting for book five of a planned seven**. So if we set aside the sheer need for lots of pages to cope with all the various threads that we're following, we do need plot twists that delay the resolution of some of the bigger issues until the back end of A Dream of Spring (which is almost three books away :)) and the middling ones until at least the end of ADWD. (I agree that the Tyrion-Dany issue may be far from climactic: GRRM is a bit of a magician and seems to enjoy undermining our assumptions, however well founded we think them.)

** - Ignoring the UK split of ASOS and completely banishing the thought that there may need to be more than seven books to wrap the story up. And I'm assuming that the war with the Others does not continue a long way beyond the stage when affairs south of the Wall have been resolved.

I think Jorah will try to prove himself to Dany. Hopefully, he fails, as, I'm sorry, I cannot stand that dude. I think he'd be much more interesting in the context of the Wall, so I hope Sam manages to get a message to him somehow in regards to his father's last wish.

He's not dead. He does hold a grudge. One of three things:

1) Change of heart and he'll join the Watch
2) Strike out alone and indeed join up with Tyrion (and uncle Gerry, I firmly believe that this one is not dead.
3) Follow Dany like the ******* of Braavos. Or whatever his name was. The former mercenary that almost killed her. I believe Barristan saved her from him.

If Jorah does return, I just hope it's nothing cheesy. I really don't want to see Jorah sacrificing himself to save Dany who forgives her "bear" as he lies there dying.

That whole meme freaked me out to no end. Does GRRM have any idea what a "bear" is in popular culture? Just reading that every so often was enough to spoil my experience of Dany's chapters.
