I write 3,000 words per day but can't think of any
I thought this might be a cool idea. Go into word or whatever program you use and find the word or page count for every novel/short story/whatever that you have finished.

Here is mine.

Six fantasy novels, 587,800 words approximately. That is an average of about 98,00 words per book. The shortest is 70,000 words, and the longest is 173,000. The total page count is 1099... I could have written one more page and had 1100! Keep in mind that these are pages in MS word.

I'm not counting unfinished projects, but I have about 100k words of other stuff.

P.S. If you are new or, unlike me, you like to write a bunch of different things at the same time than you can just add up what you've written so far no matter if it's finished or not.

Well, I'm new here, but have been writing short stories off and on for years. Not many end up finished (I loose patience with them or they just fizzle out), but the longest finished piece so far is 34 pages (in MS Word) and 19,803 words.

Probably not as much as most, but I'm fairly proud of that!

well, i can't quite top that. i've got 500k of unfinished projects - most of em deservedly unfinished too - but finished? probably only around 30-35k. as to what that'd make out as a page count, i'm not too certain, as some is single-spaced, some double-spaced, and all written in a mix of TNR & Courier.

ok just the work i have on the computer is 66,931 word count but i also have three folders of writing still to be typed in.

Hahaha... I think we have somewhere on the order of 1,000,000 pages of unfinished work.

1 on 1 roleplaying in chat at work over the course of 6 years... best way to goof off at work.

You mean, some people have finished???

(being otherwise incapable of the ability to apologise, I will just say sorry, I'm really sorry, really really sorry, please, please forgive me or I'll just have to kill myself ... again and again until it takes...)

Define "finished".

I have three books that (when they were at their largest) totalled almost 650,000 words. They were (and are) complete, in that they each have beginnings, middles and ends, and the characters have arrived (physically and emotionally) at their assigned **destinations. They do, though, require a lot more work (i.e. at least one more draft each). As that work continues, the word count has dropped by about 100,000.

** - In some cases, these are not where I originally wanted them to be.

My finished SF/F amounts to two novellas and a few short stories. About 175 pages all told.

One major narrative; 99,224 words - 186 pages in Word.

One space opera - about a quarter of a million words

One litfic novel - 66 000
two half finished litfics - about 60 000 total

Stormwatcher book 1 - 147 000
Stormwatcher book 2 - 70 000
Stormwatcher book 3 - 40 000
Stormwatcher book 4 - 40 000

Assorted short stories - 20 000 approx

PLus miscellaneous other stuff - monologues, poetry, a play...

Probably comes in at around three quarters of a million words. And that's the stuff I've kept...

Cheater, Fiona! Only finished stories need apply... Can I include film scripts? Ah, no, it says novels and short stories etc. I had to dig deep into the bottom of a musty cabinet to find some of my shorties (stories that is).

Part one of Trilogy: 147,352 (but I am editing it at the moment, re-writing some sections. It is finished Fiona, honest, but I'm just re-finishing...)

11 Short stories: 28,476 in total.

5 Articles (published in Superbike donkey's years ago) 3850

3 Articles in DIY magazines (Okay I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel here, but whattheheck...) 5288

I look at this and ask: Is that all??? Answer: Yes. Less is more...?

I guess it's time to update... Let's see, where was I last post?

Alright, since then I've finished two novels, and one short story.
A chart would be handy, each number represents a novel:

  1. 70,117 words
  2. 83,511 words
  3. 80,218 words
  4. 88,563 words
  5. 173,057 words
  6. 92,646 words
  7. 97,863 words
  8. 148,172 words
  9. 70,346 words
Here are the short stories:

  1. 9,323 words (technically this could be a "novelette," whatever that is)
  2. 3,211 words
Which is a total of around 918,000 words
The average word count of the novels is up to 100,600. It will probably increase, because I'm writing a new novel and I think I have another epic on my hands
