Alison Croggon

I'm reading The Gift by Alison Croggon at the moment and it's turning out to be quite good.
I'd not heard of this author before and chanced across her in my library. Older Teen's book, but quite mature

Any other fans?

Yep,

Alison Croggon is another aussie author making a splash in the Young Adult fantasy genre, I guess Garth Nix being another good example.

She was originally a newspaper journalist in my home city of Melbourne, before deciding to go full time into writing. Her first and continued foray was into Poetry, for which she has published a book.

The Gift is her first venture into a fantasy series per se. I've read this book and quite enjoyed it, she has a very nice style of descriptive prose I feel and her characters are quite accesible.

Anyway, I don't know what's written on the blurb of Book 1 as I read it a litle while back but this is part of a 4 book series. Book 2 The Riddle I've also managed to get a hold of, it comes out in May 2005 in the UK.

Book 3 is called The Crow and Allison has recently completed the first draft, confirming in the past week that it will be out in OZ in May 2006 and later in the UK. Alison has suggested the final Book 4 will be titled The Singing.

For those of you in the US Book 1 will be called The Naming and is scheduled for release in June 2005. Book 2 will be out June 2006.

Thanks for the info Gollum I'd noticed the different naming of book one on Amazon and was confused at first

Yes, I think Alison has some real talent as a writer and her literary star may lead her anywhere!
