"Aaron" of the MySpace Lovecraft group has pointed out that the lost essay on astrology which HPL wrote for Houdini has been found, and sold on eBay.

Sorry I can't provide an actual link--this site says I haven't yet posted enough to include links in my messages. The title of the eBay listing is " HOUDINI and H.P. LOVECRAFT Offering (Signed by Houdini)"

There are quite a few scans of the MS (mostly unreadable, alas), and even some scans of the letters from HPL correspondents (e.g. Cook) which are on the reverse of Lovecraft's draft (as usual, he was recycling old letters).

I'm afraid I'm not getting anything with that listing. Even so, I would imagine such a thing (if it's the original papers) would go for a hellishly high price; I only hope that whoever ends up with it provides it (or copies of it) to Lovecraft scholars....

The item number is 120404416969. The MS (holograph) sold for $5355.

Thanks for the further information. That's actually quite a reasonable price, considering.... Mind you, I couldn't have afforded that sort of thing on the best of days, but still.....;)

I, too, am surprised it didn't fetch a higher price, especially when you look at some of the stuff which pulls in big $$$ on the collectors' market.

Anyway, I hope Mr. Joshi has been told about this development.

Yes, I e-mailed him on Saturday. I've had no reply yet, but I know that he is very busy right now.

Thanks for bringing that in, Martin. I've taken a look, and it sounds like it should be quite something.....

Published even? Wow... that'd be amazing (but a smallish book). A nice supplement to the Essays volumes.
