I have almost finished my 1st official (because i did read bits and pieces over the years) of ASOIAF. I was only 15 when I first read the books and im surprised how much i notice four years later (im not sying ive matured cos maturity is for those who want to grow old and boring and im going to be a child at heart forever).

Now back on topic. Ive noticed many things most of which you good people have already picked up on. Other things im not sure you have (although your free to discredit me at any time -Boaz, Wert, anyone?...) First i'll list minimal things ive noticed that aren't too significant.

-Eddard actually had a lot more balls so to speak than i gave him credit for when i first read ASOIAF and i now realise how much effort he put in and the sarifices he had to make to get no where -cos Cerseis a coniving bitch not cos Ned is week or too moral etc.

-How involved Renly and Littlefinger were in political happenings

-How much I actually admire Varys in a weird way.

-Sansa is a far stronger/smarter character than people realise imo its just that we typecast her as the dreamy, not so bright yoiung girl but she's had (once again imho) a lot more of her mother's politcal mind. Its just that she has for most of the series been couped up and too young to express herself. This i believe to be more credit too GGRMs briliant writting. I believe she's meant to be the surpirse super awesome queen of the north character but im on-ta-ya Gearge!

-Catleyn does actually poses a briliant politacal mind its just that she was fighting an uphill battle and didn't realise it till towards the end. Although I really did dislike her from the get-go this time round especially when she started to get all wingy -ughh!

-Jon Snow has a lot more too him as well (sorry Boaz).

Now for the part wher i put forward some zany and shocking theories. Well i've only got AFFC cos my cousin has my other books so i'll just have to put up 1  and add the rest later.

When Victarion returns from the Norh to attend the Kingsmoot he thinks to himself "Whoever wins the Seastone Chair, I shall deal with the bog devils." Now the point isn't that Howlend Reeds men ae fighting them (although i had missed this) at Moat Cailin, it's the fact that Robb did actually have a plan to win back the North and may have actually pulled it off. Now let us add to the fact that we here in other passages (when Arya is with the Brotherhood i think) that most of the northmen are with howland Reed. Who else thinks that the Boltons are in for a good butt kicking AND the greyjoy invaders. Also what would make the remnants of Robb's army trek ALL the way to Bog County but their leader?! Not Robb!!! (sheeesh) but Rickon -Thy think Bran's dead and my bets on the fact that at some point Rickon and Osha ended up with the marsh-men.

SOOOO the point of this thread is "after a re-read what little things did you notice and what theories have you developed" i guess?

it is very easy to forget about the remnants of Robb's army who were traveling through the bogs to retake Moat Cailin. However I don't think they have the strength to defeat the combined forces of Bolton, the Iron Islands, and Lannisters. I think they will have to resort to guerrilla tactics to survive. They could in theory make common cause with Stannis in the north though.

I like the idea of Rickon ending up in the Neck, it would seem to fit his personality quite well. I actually can't imagine any other safe place for him to be. The last we heard, Rickon was heading east towards the sea I think to catch a boat, it would take him a long while to reach the Neck, so I don't think he's there quite yet. The force in the bogs were already on the move before the red wedding happened. Who is leading that force by the way? Wasn't it one of the female Mormonts? The one with the huge mace?

I believe it was Maege Mormont and Galbart Glover that were detached to find Howland Reed. However I think you people are wrong in suspecting that they took any sort of substantial force with them. I'm sure they took some men with them but their job was to inform Howland Reed of the plan so that he could help Robb's army bypass Moat Cailin while the Greatjon's army assaulted the causeway. They wouldn't need anything more than an honour guard to perform this task I don't think.

Sorry to crush any hopes but don't expect half of the Northern army to come riding up out of nowhere to secure the throne for the Starks. It's about as likely as Rickon leading the vanguard into battle.
