I believe it'd be from the 70s/80s, and I did up a quick (terrible) version of what I remember the cover to be like.

I remember wooden space ships from the Darkwar Trilogy by Glen Cook. The titles are:
Doomstalker, Warlock, Ceremony

Witchlike Silth, powering wooden "darkships". Main character's name is Marika.

Warlock has a couple of characters standing on a carved wooden cross style ship. In the middle of a starfield.

Yep. That's terrible. Bob Shaw I think had something called "Wooden Spaceships" a number of years ago (I think the 80's). I think it was an interplanetary romance kind of thing, with two planets and a common atmosphere.
