Hello everyone, I was wondering if you could assist me in finding the title to a book I read quite some time ago. The first book started off with 2 guys living in some kind of underground compound, when it was suddenly invaded by seemingly intelligent raptor like dinosaurs that were weilding a lightning gun. They managed to escape to the surface, where the vast majority of humanity are already enslaved by these creatures. Along the way they meet up with a tarzan esque individual and a woman called Sandra. Throughout the rest of the series these people fight against the raptor guys who actually fly around in saucers. There were 3 books in the series, and I know i loved them, but for whatever reason time is playing havoc with my memory. Any ideas or help you could give would be greatly appreciated!

No, I'm afraid it can't be the "West of Eden" trilogy (indeed by Harry Harrison) – too many discrepancies (flying saucers, majority of humanity enslaved, 'Tarzan' equivalent) Furthermore, despite being carnivorous, the Yilanè don't resemble raptors.

Sawyer's "Farseer" dinosaurs might fit the role, if ever they got back to Earth, but they didn't.

Turtledove's "Worldwar" lizards come closer to the enslavement scenario, but too many details don't match.

So I don't think I've read the book, unfortunately.

Ah, West of Eden. Of course. I always have trouble with east and west (though never north and south). It might be to do with being west-handed. Its been so many years since I read this story I couldn't be sure (though I was reasonably sure that wasn't it - I have a vague memory of the dinosaurians being a bit stumpy and mannish...)

I have nothing more useful to contribute, Nathan - I haven't an inkling, I'm afraid. ;)

I don't know why but this puts me in mind of somethig by Jack Vance, although I can't pin down which series I'm thinking of... Probably nothing to do with Vance at all, but it seemed worth mentioning on the off-chance.

Best of luck, in any case.

I definetly appreciate your responses :) Hours later I did end up finding it. It was a a series of books by Gary Gentile. A Time for Dragons Dragon Past No Future for Dragons thanks again for your help everyone! And if you get a chance and can find these books I highly recommend them :)

Sigh, and I knew that one. I actually have two of the three around here somewhere.
