My other half has two of the books by Alan Dean Foster on her shelf,Log one and Log two(there are 10 in total apparently)
I know they're based on the animated series which I've never seen, but are they just for kids only?(one i just found on bookmooch is under category Corgi Childrens books)

I haven't read the Logs, but i have read some Alan Dean Foster (I even have some first editions of his at home) and i have found him to be an enjoyable writer.

Oh i think ADF is a good writer, underrated cos people only think of him as a noveliser, but his Pip and Flinx books are fun, also Quozl,Glory Lane,Man Who Used the Universe i think its called,Cat a Lyst and a few others I've read. Oh and he wrote the story for the first Star Trek movie

I wish he would have written the book while he was at it. As for the ST Logs, I haven't read them either but I suspect their not just for kids. Ballantine, and later Del Rey, published them as straight forward sf.

Hmmm who DID write the book for the first movie?
Didn't James Blish and Thomas M Disch write some Star Trek books too at some point?

I read Foster's Star Trek LOg books when I was in my Star Trek phase. They are light sf; but not just for children only. As noted, they were later release as straight Sf, not marketed as YA.

Foster adds a fews odds and ends that I found enjoyable. Added a bit of length to a smalls tory and made it more than simply a direct copy of the Tv show.

IMHO, well worth read one and see what you think--if you like Foster at all.

Gene Roddenberry wrote the novelization of Star Trek: The Motion Picture and I wish he hadn't. If I had to list my top 10,000 writers he probably wouldn't make the list.

Blish wrote a bunch of Star Trek television adaptations, even an original novel, SPOCK MUST DIE. Not familiar with any Disch adaptations.

I found and purchased the first five Star Trek Logs many years ago and the main thing I noticed was that no one died. All combat was resolved peacefully. That and they had some characters on the bridge that couldn't have been on a live action TV show that long ago.
