Not as disturbing as some of the puns that popped into my head, Lob. (Luckily for the rest of you, this is a family forum.)
On a more serious note, I would have thought that there are a number of explanations for that arrangment of the two skeletons, some of which would far from romantic.
Well, seeing what happens right after death, even if this would be romantic now, it would hardly be romantic for quite a while until all the......waste would dissapear one way or another . And I am not talking about dead meat .
And as for the position itself, well......death hardly would let them lie like that naturaly . Methinks some Roman Catholic Father got a litle drunk on church wine and then, seeing as it was Verona, did things which would one day astounish the world .
Not sure why this should be either disturbing or suggest that someone got drunk and tampered with the bodies or the bones.
There is no evidence of how they died, so there is no telling what the circumstances were, but it just looks like whoever buried the two young people decided to do so in a sentimental fashion probably reflecting the relationship they had in life.
Ummm, after 3000+ years, I don't think anyone would expect to find even skeletal remains, Lobo. The human body (including bones) usually decays in much less than a century; to have any remains after thousands of years is rather rare; to have them this complete is very rare indeed. (Though of course this depends in part on the amount of air which can reach the remains, among other things.....)
(Extreme caution: this last link contains graphic photos of the decomposition process and its its products. I advise any who are squeamish or prone to nightmares to avoid going there.)
