Yo, so I have just finished reading Midnight Tides and I have a few questions about the series, one because its extraordinarily complicated, and two because I don't always pay attention when I'm reading...

Firstly, whats the difference between a Theloman Toblakai and the Toblakai in the Midnight Tides? Karsa seems to kick every arse he come across including the Hounds of Darkness, but the 5 Toblakai in MT seem bloomin incompitent.

Secondly, do we ever see T'ool & co. again? The three Seguleh were great, as was Toc the Younger.

Thirdly, are there anymore books about Whiskeyjack and the Bridgeburners? I know they died but hardly seems to have stopped half the characters in this series.

Fourthly, anybody else think Erikson uses the phrase 'must needs' a little to often? Just me? ok then....lol.

Cheers, Emporer K-Ved xxx

i can't remember half of MT, unfortunately, but in answer to the remaining questions:

Karsa's ass-whuppery goes from strength to strength.
All the old characters from previous books? Keep reading, good sir, keep reading....

The five that Iron Bars faught were, i thought, severly diminished form being held for so long by an Azath. (others may disagree on that point)

As for the other questions, as the right honourable Chopper states - Keep reading ;)

As Chopper said, Karsa seems to be an anomaly even within his brutal race.

Yeah that makes sense, there are subtle allusions to that fact throughout the book and lets not forget, Iron Bars had help from a Tarthenal (Ublala Pung?), who are half-blood Toblakai.

1. I believe all six are the same. Wellll..... OK, there's a quote in Reaper's Gale about Karsa being "pure". I'm not going to say anything else, because it will ruin it. I also agree with the comments above about the five Toblakai having been imprisoned by an Azath.

A nice bit from Wikipedia explains about the Thel Akai and their descendants, the Thelomen Toblakai.

Human races from the Malazan Book of the Fallen series - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

2. You'll have to carry on reading to find out. ;)

3. Yes - the characters pop up here and there (Fiddler, Quick Ben and Kalam, mostly - Bonehunters, Reaper's Gale). Toll the Hounds deals with the Bridgeburners who survived Coral and moved to Darujhistan.

4. Can't say I've had that thought. no. :p Though I must admit there are times when I think certain phrases are overused. I can't think of any examples off the top of my head, though.

I hope you continue reading through the series - you're in for a real treat in The Bonehunters!
