The future is totalitarian (as always), and the only thing I remember is the second book, in which a little girl is captured by the "authorities" or somesuch. She thinks back on her life a little, remembering her aunt or mother, who only wanted her living with her for a higher food quota, so she could eat more. At som point in the book this government person, who I believe was the father of someone plot-related, offers her a sandwich. A real sandwich, not syntethic, with real tomatoes. This was somehow quite incredible. Does anyone know which series I am talking about?
