There is this book that I desperately need to find, I don't know author or title, just part of the plot.
It had a guy that is almost dead because his father's friend/uncle "killed" him because he had a beautiful voice. He also killed (completely) his father (the uncle guy.) He has this ring that gives him his magical power to see "ghosts." He's seeking revenge for his father's death by setting out to kill the man that chopped up his neck with and axe because he was a lovely singer (uncle guy.) He meets this woman, rescues her actually, and they awkwardly fall in love. He has a real issue with people. He lives in the woods. I believe the outcome of this book is the uncle guy dies and so does the main character, or nearly dies or goes beyond the veil or whatever.
