What book covers did you love or remember, which covers gave a sense of wonder or fear? What covers made you want to read a book? This is the thread to post them, the anti-bad book cover thread if you like. If this has been done before, then apologies.

Here's one of mine from when I was a kid... This one generated wonder and fear...

The old covers for Sven Hassel's novels. I was introduced to them at a time when I still read 'Commando' comics. With covers which closely resemble those of my comics , I was drawn in to reading 'proper' books.

"Rogue Bomber"

saw the cover a lot in the mags. me and my mate searched high and low but never found it.

whatever happened to Fritz and his mates?

I love some of the penguin covers from the 70s,but some are just awful!
And the first Asimov book I read had a Chris Foss cover and I just loved it.(I later found an old battered hardback copy of Caves of Steel and framed the cover) I love his stuff and have this cover of Slan as my phone wallpaper

Stephen Donaldson original UK covers not mine alas... they must have gone walkabout:

It was as much the background painting of the land as the main image.

One of my all time favorites is Paul Alexander's cover to Colin Kapp's PATTERNS OF CHAOS, Ace Books, May 1978.

One of the few books I have bought based on the cover alone. As it turned out, it was one of the best though out modern utopia I have ever encountered:

The hardback artwork from A.A. Attanasio's RADIX has always fascinated me.

WizardofOwls,

Love the Greenmantle cover, reminds me of the sequoia forest in California.
