soul splitting?

The idea that one can take another's soul from their body and tear little pieces away until the soul is gone.


How many books can you think of are there that use this basic idea?

While not specifically what your asking about, Ann Rice's Tale of the Body Thief has the ability to force a soul from a body and thereby live forever as when one body gets old, the 'body-thief' is able to force a weaker soul from a body that it then ocupies, the disposed soul is forced to enter the discarded body.
Feeding on souls is quite common i suppose, in some fantasy books i've read, i've found that demons usually feed on souls and incorporate the soul into thier being. Can't think of any examples off hand, sorry.

In SF, Altered Carbon by Richard Morgan does, amongst other things, examine some of the issues surrounding the transfer of the mind into others' bodies.

(There is another, relatively recent, SF example I could mention, which is even closer to your requirement, Celeritas, but even giving its title in this context would constitute an enormous spoiler, so I won't. )
