Hello all,

After an absence of many years, I have recently returned to the world of Midkemia to catch up on everything that has been published since 'Shards of a Broken Crown'.

I'm now in the middle of 'Talon of the Silver Hawk', and it all seems a bit different from what has come before. It's nice to finally find out more about the eastern kingdoms, but I also miss not having Krondor as the backdrop to the story.

One other thing that seems different is the relationship between Pug and his descendants and the royal family. From a comment Caleb makes when he and Talon are touring Krondor, they don't seem to be talking to each other anymore.

For those of you who have read to the latest book, is this indeed the case? Have Pug, Caleb and Magnus drifted away from the conDoins just because things change, time passes, people die etc or maybe because of what happened between Pug and Patrick at the end of the Serpentwar?

Or do members of the royal family starting playing a major role again in later novels? I know by the time of TotSH that Patrick is dead and his son Ryan is now king. Is there ever any mention of what happened to various conDoins in the meantime - Borric, Erland, Elena, Patrick, Francine and so on? Did Francine and Jimmy Jnr ever have the fling she hinted at? Did Patrick ever turn out to be anything other than an arrogant ****?

I'm pretty sure that Pug decided to annexe Stardock from the Kingdom as the King wanted to use it/Pug in political issues, Pug refused and the King or Prince didn't like it, causing a rift between them which is a shame really as I always enjoyed characters like Arutha, Elrand/Borric etc and the latter books tend to suffer IMO because of this (and other things that shall not be mentioned to someone who hasn't finished the series)

Cheers

Feel free to mention away - I'm the weird kind of person who doesn't mind knowing what's going to happen in a book before I read it. I blame George R.R. Martin and 'The Red Wedding' :)

I would be a bit sad if the later books focus more on the magical side of things at the expense of what's going on in the day to day 'human' world of Midkemia. I don't mind the magical stuff, but I don't find it very interesting either. I'd rather know what's going on at court in Krondor or Rillanon :)

Similar to how I feel about David Weber's Honor Harrington series. Love the political intrigue and the characters' personal issues, couldn't give a fig about the 32 page long space battles.

But each to their own. YMMV.

I'll not say anymore than to say that in the later books, Feist really doesn't have a clue who's in the royal family or not, who's dead or not, what age are they etc... Which is all a shame because the later novels have brilliant storylines that have suffered because of this
