Kaiku, is the lead part. And I enjoyed the different approach with this fantasy story. Instead of magic, it's unusual abilties
The characters with these unusual abilities are Aberants.
I thought Wooding told a good story about Kaiku's struggle to find herself, learn about her abilities and try and get revenge for her familes deaths.
The politics (and I know I always say this
) I thought was probably necessary, but did get on my nerves a bit. I can't help it, politics just doesnt engage me.
However the Weavers, well aren't they just wonderful nasty, distasteful characters. I think they are great, and again different from anything I'd come across before
It pleased me to see that Wooding wasnt afraid to make difficult decisions, and kill off a character
. Not that I like to see main characters killed off, but it's good to have shocks and keeps you wondering what will happen and on the edge of your seat
Someone that will kill off a character well involved in a plot keeps us all guessing, and keeps things interesting.
I've just finished reading the 2nd book in this series. Some of the same elements i really liked. But more politics that I dont like and too many storylines. Shame really, but that's another book discussion
Overall, I like The Weavers of Saramyr (the bookcover is artistic too). I liked the oriental feel, and when I read this book it was the first fantasy I'd read with this theme.
I think Wooding writes in an easy, straightforward style, it's clean and uncomplicated
A very good first book to this series.
