"Growing Pains", a story I've always been pretty pleased with, has just been published; free to read in Hub #101.
Issue 101*|*Hub Magazine

This one has taken an age to appear - not entirely Hub's fault (they've had it 17 months). After being rejected by Asimov's, with a personal note from editor Sheila Williams explaining that the story nearly made it, "Growing Pains" was accepted by the magazine Farthing ...who held onto it for nearly two years without ever publishing the piece (despite several empty promises) before going under...

But it's finally in print!!! :)

Congratulations, Ian.

(That'll teach you (and us) to call a story: Growing Pains. ;):))

Read Growing Pains the other day, when Hub turned up in the inbox. Good story, although I was convinced it was going to go in a completely different direction to what it did. :)

Just started reading it today, Ian - glad to see it in print finally, even if the journey was rather a painful one!

Thanks, everybody. ktabic, glad the story surprised you somewhat, and Patrick, just shows that perseverance pays! :)

Chopper, hope you enjoy the story when you get the chance to read it, and, Ursa, the title is fitted to the story... honest!

It should be on the bottom of the page as a PDF file Michael, at least that's how I found it.

Found it to be a very easy and engaging read as well Ian, congratulations on your persistence in getting it published into the light of day.

Of course now I want to see the follow-up story of an adult David running around the field in combat gear before being tackled by the police.
"The war is over, David".

"It's never over..." :D
