Destiny is on a seemingly unalterable collision course with a star, and despite finding three suitable planets,http://stargate.wikia.com/wiki/Colonel Young tells everyone that only seventeen people can go in the shuttle and a lottery will determine their fate.

I quite liked this episode. To me it was brilliant and the moment Destiny dived into the star I got chillies. I felt so exited. Maybe the reason was that I was so mesmerised by the display of the surface of the sun. It was really, really beautiful and made me to want to go out there and board one of the cruisers to get a tour to observe towering pillars of plasma.

About the Destiny. I think it's not software that is controlling the ship. It's an AI, not a free mind, but a slave AI without ability for independent thoughts. It makes the ship to follow the program parameters up to the point when it arrives to it's destination. What do you think?

Well who'd have thunk it? We were right about the whole 'solar powered' thing! +1 Geek point for each of our team, but Eli didn't figure it out or even guess at it, -1 Geek point for him!

Thought it was interesting the way that Rush may or may not have figured it out long before they got to the star, but the way he acts a lot of the time seems to be geared towards alienating himself from the rest of the group.

It would certainly seem that way. I think it has received information on the systems that the gate-seeder has been through so it can make critical calculations. It seems to have contingency programs, such as finding a planet with the resources needed to clean the CO2 scrubbers. Most likely because it detected increasing levels after the party had gated, it used the info to stop in the nearest suitable system.
I think that ultimately there is no destination, it's just following in the path of the gate-seeder which I believe was going to be recalled by the Asurans, but after they ascended they basically forgot about it. I just wonder how the seeder gets the supplies for making more gates since it can't carry an infinite amount of trinium and it's unlikely it uses the solar scoop to pick it up from planets.

It's certainly unusual to have quite a morally dubious "lead" character in Dr Rush, especially so reasonably played by Begbie.

It'll be interesting to see how many of the previously unavailable systems will now come back on-line with the ship at (presumably) full power again.

And, for the record, the geek-within-me feels for poor Eli. Not exactly a ladies man, but thought he'd found a friend. Now, what are we to make of "last chance before death" gal?

Yeah, he definitely lacked on the panic sex department.

I thought it was nicely played from his part. What does he know about adult ways or about the world anyways. All his life, he has been with the computers and virtual realities, not even knowing that he has natural ability towards the mathematics.

I enjoyed this episode, it was a bit harsh of the girl to cling to Eli when she thought Scott was a goner, but I suppose that is her character. Big love triangle brewing up there I think.

The sun scoop was very cool, and although we all sort of guessed at it it was pretty spectacular. I don't think that Dr Rush knew, but I wuold have thought he could have expected it. It's not really the sort of thing that he would have been able to risk the crerw's life on though. 'Well we are flying into the sun and for al I know we are going to be incinerated, but don't worry the ship might know what it is doing!' he wouldn't have got away with such a flimsy premise, without facts to back it up.
I see that Rush, Eli and the captain (the limping leader guy) are beginning to form relationships, and trust each other. It is really looking promising, looking forward to tomorrows episode.

:)

Even though I'm still mezmerized by this shot, I'm wondering how the ancients pulled off this trick, when some parts of Destiny looks as if it's been a war? If a ship like this can dive into a sun, then what a few mega-watt beam/particle-weapon can do to it?

I've been wondering what these people are eating? It didn't look as if they got few pigs, cows or seeds with them, nor does it look as the ship has a secret garden, does it?

Pretty certain food will come up in a future episode. But I think they have water to go through first.
Basic requirements for survival: air, water, food, in that order of priority (with the rule of three applying, 3 minutes without air, 3 days without water, 3 weeks without food).

Not sure yet how long they have been on the destiny. But they did take some supplies with them. Back in the first episode they where going through their supplies. Looked like energy bars.

--possible spoiler based on previous events---
In a bit of foreshadowing, the troublemaker soldier (can't remember his name, but he is one of the regulars) slipped a couple of extras into his pockets, so I sure he will get into further trouble over that
---spoiler---

They're eating reconstituted dehydrated/powdered rations, supplemented by protein bars. Hence Col. Young's request to Airman Becker (catering assistant on Icarus) to come up with "Recipes. For God's sake, recipes."

I also don't think Col. Young does trust Dr. Rush - every episode he's saying that Nicholas is a lot of work.

I don't believe Rush knew the Destiny would find the power the way it did, though I think he suspected something like it would happen. As mentioned above, from the various things that have happened so far, it changing course into the sun was no accident: the ship (so far) hasn't made any. And to hit or miss a sun is quite a significant difference when it only needed to miss it for the crew's survival. Actually hitting it was, accuracy wise, much harder. Then again, there was no real clue up till then of any expectation. More of a realisation, whilst reading, that the time had been and gone. Maybe he's just deliberately winding up Col. Young at every opportunity: he could be a sociopath, albeit a very clever one, or have one of the myriad personality conditions that mean he literally doesn't fully "get" human interaction.

Ep 6 killed alot of my hopes for this series, it was so repetitive and very much a copy of ep 3 with Scott being saved again. Its too early to get this repetitive for me.

I find the characters, situations on the ships interesting but the planet parts are so predictable, pointless. I hope ep 7 is much better than 6.

I want to see more Eli doing something to deserve his place in the inner circle other than math boy and more Greer and not just Scott being heroic in every ep.
