I think this is the place for this...
The Verulam Writers’ Circle (VWC), are hosting their fourth annual ‘Get Writing’ one day conference on the 20th February, 2010. This is the St Albans-based writing group I'm secretary for. I can attest to some excellent (and published!) writers coming from VWC (you can also see me there, if you like). I attended the last two conferences and very good they were too.
Last year’s conference was completely sold out by Christmas, so this year we’ve linked up with the University of Hertfordshire and relocated to their de Havilland Campus in Hatfield, giving us enough room for 200 delegates.
There will be a wide range of guest speakers, including John Jarrold of SFF fame, as well as the winner of ‘Theakston’s Old Peculiar Crime Novel of the Year 2009’ award, Mark Billingham, comedy writer Imran Ahmad, and Adéle Geras, who has had a wide range of books published for adults and young people.
The conference also offers delegates the opportunity to pitch to an agent or publisher. It’s not often writers get to pitch in person to leading publishers like Simon Taylor of Random House or Marlene Johnson of Hachette UK . We’ve three leading literary agents lined up: Philip Patterson of Marjacq Scripts, John Jarrold, specialist in SF and fantasy, and Anna Power of Johnson & Alcock. Slots are limited so people need to book early if they want to take advantage of this opportunity.
The conference is on Saturday 20th February between 9am and 6pm and includes a choice of talks and workshops, as well as lunch, for the all-inclusive ticket price of £45. If you are interested, or know of anyone who might be, then booking is now open via the VWC website:
www.vwc.org.uk.
Thanks for reading,
Toby.
