No name or author but some ideas

Hey, I am trying to find a book (or 3?) that I read years ago, and now I cant remember much about it. I have a vague idea about the cover like its on the tip of my tongue, but I cant explain it when I try.

Heres what I remember from the book

Main character is a women who is from a more advanced planet than the one she is on now (it is sorta fantasy like). I think she got stuck there after taking a school trip. not sure. She works as a sort of fortune teller. She is one day employed by a member of an affluent and wealthy family.

Much politics occur, and something about her employers brother betraying their entire family.

I think its a series because I am pretty sure I read the books in a large paper back. Must be 2 or 3.

I remember one hilarious scene where she finds herself bleeding and fears for the worst only to realize she is just on her period, having not had one for years due to an implant she had that originated from her home world.

Thats all I can remember, other than that I really enjoyed the books. I hope that sparks someones memory.

I think the paperbacks front cover was predominently tan or light brown.

Try Doris Egan's Ivory series, first book is "The Gate of Ivory". (Can't remember if I can post a link, it's on Amazon though). Sounds like a good match for what you are looking for.
