Monthly comics or trades?

More and more I have been getting into monthly comics instead of picking up trades or graphic novels as you might call them. For awhile I would pick up a huge amount of trades and go crazy, but I haven't bought one in a very long time since I been caught up picking up monthlies. I get much more of a thrill going to the comic shop and feeling excited to pick up a new issue of a great series. What does everyone else prefer?

Back when I started reading comics, trades were a lot rarer, not published as a matter of course, but just collecting the hard to get issues of certain comics, so the only way you could read the new monthly stuff was as a regular monthly title. (Or pray that it became very collectable very fast and a trade appeared.)

And I have carried over from that, still reading the monthly titles.

That being said certain comics just seem to work better as trade paperbacks, Daredevil is one that springs to mind, and I have been buying that as TPB.

But in answer to the question Monthly.

I use trades to catch up to old series or new series i havent read. Monthly is better pace wise read than wait a year for one volume. Only series i have ever waited trade wise was The Walking Dead vol 1- vol 8

So now i'm monthly on my american, euro comics and trade are only for manga that comes out once 3 months.

My monthlies at the moment for money reasons i have only kept the biggest fav series:

Punisher Max
Daredevil
Invincible
The Walking Dead
Jonah Hex
Nova
Incognto/Criminal
Scalped
Unknown Soldeir
Chew
Umbrella Academy

I am not a comic collector, so it's graphic novels for me, although as a collector, i can really see the appeal of collecting monthly comics. It must be quite exciting waiting for those releases each month.

That's exactly the reason I do the monthlies, I can't wait for the trade for my favorite series.

The trade are getting more expensive too. Monthly comics are like a good tv shows, one of the pleasures is waiting for the next issue.

I'm a bit lazy and impatient when it comes to waiting for comic issues ....so I wait until they appear in trade or graphic novel formats.

I haven't noticed a big price increase myself in what I'm calling graphic novels, at least not here. Sure some titles are on the pricey side but the majority are still affordable off the shelf in Melbourne.

Lost Girls is of course an example of the higher price market.
