Infinitely Improbable
Robert Holdstock (1948-2009) died at 4am in the morning of Sunday 29 November, having been in intensive care since his collapse with E. coli infection on the 18th . He was only 61 and will be much missed. All sympathy to Sarah and the rest of the family.

First read about this on Kate Elliott's blog. Found the rest on the Locus site.

This is terrible news. I know (knew) Rob and his wife Sarah. Heard from Dave Langford on the 18th that he'd been dashed into hospital and was in intensive care... This is just awful.

I'd met Robert on several occasions this year. He was a tremendously talented author and a very charasmatic and funny guy to talk to. He wrote the very first work of science fiction I ever read, The Dark Wheel, the novella that accompanied the release of the computer game Elite in 1984, and of course Mythago Wood and its successors are vital modern works of fantasy fiction.

He will be missed.

Very sorry to hear this news. Read an interview with Robert in a recent issue of Interzone.

RIP

I only met him a few times at conventions, but weas a genuinely nice bloke. His Where Time Winds Blow is a favourite sf novel of mine.

RIP.

Mythago Wood is a masterpiece. Ironically I just recently ordered a new copy, having found that my old copy was missing. Re-reading it will be a good way to keep his memory alive.

That's very sad and shocking news. I didn't even realise he was ill. I regret never having met Holdstock as I have always held Mythago Wood in fairly high esteem and not just in terms of SFF but across the broader literatry landscape.

A little like J.P. but perhaps not quite so ironically I was recently looking at the omnibus edns. of the continuing Mythago sequence just the other week, wondering to myself should I purchase?....perhaps now I will.

R.I.P. Mr. Holdstock.

Edward Woodward and Robert Holdstock in six weeks? The Grim Reaper is not playing fair.

Really, really really bad news.
