Is Jerry Bruckheimer creating the ultimate SF series?

I heard that Jerry Bruckheimer's creating a new SF series that rivals "Babylon 5," "Star Trek," "Jericho," and other SF/apocalyptic shows.

Supposedly this new series is about the terraforming of a planet (I don't think it's Mars) and supposedly this series takes place in a distant future after an apocalypse. From what I heard, Bruckheimer wants to create something that rivals what Michael Crichton did; that is, Bruckheimer wants to create a show that has science as real as the science you would find in "CSI" or "ER," except, of course, the science in Bruckheimer's show would pertain to what someone would see in SF.

And supposedly this new series is a message of hope.

Has anyone heard anything about this new series and what its name is? If so, please let me know.

Thanks.

Jerry Bruckheimer is a hack of the very lowest order.
He is everything that is bad in American Cinema.

You're entitled to your opinion of course, Sparrow. But if you're not going to contribute anything relevant to the thread, kindly refrain from posting extraneous remarks.

If he does, I'd like to see something that's genuine. By that, I mean, something that really IS hard SF, where science plays an integral role in the storylines.

Given Hollywood, that might be asking a little too much.

Even the science there is not always 100% correct - and can sometimes be glaringly wrong or simplified - it just has to be presented correctly to the audience for them to accept it and belive that it could be real.

As for the show all I can hope is that its well written with script and well acted - even though I am a fan I would gladly sacrifice scientific accuracy for a good story (though I admit I am not that hot on science so errors which others might notice - and find negative to their entertainment - would pass over me).

Thanks.

Unfortunately, as far as science goes, Hollywood's never going to be 100% accurate; it is Hollywood, after all, the land of magic mirrors, smoke, and the Grand Make Believe.

Anyone else know anything?

I'll bit. I think this is good news. Although i don't care much for Bruckheimer's movie track record, i do like the thought of this, as long as it's done correctly. Star Trek was never 100% accurate on science and it's still a great show even now.

The main problem with these 5 year story arcs though is never the producer, it's always the studio. They have a tendancy to get cold feet and never commit to the whole story.

How can it rival Babylon 5? That series had a depth to it on so many levels that few if any shows ever dared to address. Truly when Babylong 5 was at its peak nothing could - or has - rivalled it.

Bruckheimer creating a SF just means Bruckheimer is creating a SF - it doesn;t mean to say it will be enjoyed, though here's for a little optimism that something positive can come from the development!

Even if JB wanted to make such a show--and actually could--I doubt the TV execs would let it live. They are too interested in Klingons and ray guns to allow a "real science" fiction TV show to air... they'll force JB to add aliens, weird effects, babes in spandex, etc, etc, until he'll be left with... V.

The last few shows featuring "real science" bombed on network TV in the U.S... mainly, I'm thinking of Firefly, Defying Gravity and Earth 2. There's just not a great track record for serious SF on TV... it's gotta be fantastical, or nothing.

Still, we're talking about Bruckheimer. I don't believe for a minute that he wouldn't try to do something over-the-top.
