in the 1980`s i remember reading a book about a young boy living in an underground shelter, everyone in this shelter was pale and bold and wore a back pack which i think was wired to their brain, i think it was for knowledge. Then i remember he falls into the river in the shelter and is swept out side, outside is sunny and clean, people live there in tribes and he is looked after by one, his hair grows and he gets brown etc, i think the rest of the story is spent trying to get back into the shelter to let everyone know its safe etc..................
im sure this book was probably written in the 70`s
