Cook Glen - Black Company

Just ordered the first two volumes from Amazon. Thanks for the tip.

Best wishes,
Dirk

Nope, no such luck I'm afraid...;)

I'm just a wayward fan boy is all....:D

It is good however to see other members discovering and apparently enjoying the Black Company series as much as I did.

Mildly irked that I can't get the third book on its own from Amazon. The White Rose is available, used, from abebooks, though.

I really wanted to read The Black Company, but couldn't find it anywhere. The original trilogies, I mean. My local bookstores don't have them, and there aren't any ebook editions either.

I guess it's because they're out of print. A shame...

Devil's Advocate: not sure if this is what you're after, but Amazon are selling some Black Company trilogies. The one that annoys me (because I have books 1 and 2 individually but the third is not available new, on its own) is entitled:

Chronicles of the Black Company: The Black Company - Shadows Linger - The White Rose

The trilogies published by Tor are current editions and definitely not out of print. However, if you were after the first editions that's another story bearing in mind they were obviously published as single novels back then.

does it take a while to get into the story? i just purchased book 1 and read a few pages... it's full of magical lingos lol :(

No the action starts almost right away. My issue with the book has more to do with the fact that the characters aren't particularly good.

I read a few pages and struggled but will persevere

I'd try to continue. Personally I loved the first three books (haven't read any more) and think they're well worth the effort. I'd say Cook is one of the more underrated writers around today.

The first section (as I remember it) is pretty action packed but doesn't connect as much with the rest of the book(s) and is a bit confusing.I also think the characters pick up when Raven(Do I have the right guy?) joins and we see more of the power players. Things get very interesting the last book.

I will pick it back up at some stage but have the Dessert Spear to finish then load of Gemmell's books to get through first

Got an omnibus of the first 3 Black Company books.

So far started interesting, felt a bit gratuitous in places at first. However, once we see more of the Taken, and the inter-political struggles between them, has become a lot more interesting.
