Hi all,

One of the things I've done as a hobby over the past few years is to put together and maintain a bibliography of Dune related items. The main list can be found HERE.

One of the items on that list is a book that was supposed to have been written by a guy named Harold Lee Prosser. The book in the format I have it listed in was a Borgo Press book, but I spoke to the publisher, Robert Reginald/Mike Burgess. He told me that he bought the book on spec, secured an ISBN, then Borgo folded and he returned the manuscript to Prosser.

Over the last three years I have pretty much exhausted all efforts to find him. Carl Yoke, who edited a Greenwood Press book that Prosser wrote an article for told me a couple of years ago that he used the pseudonym of Justin Willard Pinoak, but I haven't been able to scratch up anything that way either. Yoke also mentioned that Prosser was an instructor in sociology at Southwest Missouri State University, but the HR people there don't know that name.

I fear that he may have passed on, so I've looked for estate records too, but again, came up blank. I do think that I found a record of a Prosser repository of poetry at the University of New Mexico, but after speaking to the librarian there - who was kind enough to pull a few items from the shelf - it may be that there are two Prossers out there. I did find another one in BIP, so maybe so.

As a last ditch attempt before I write this author off, I was wondering if anyone here had a line on him? I only want to ask him what happened to the completed manuscript that he turned it. For example, did it ever get published under another name, or in a different form? If he has passed, Id appreciate some contact info to the estate's administrator. If that is too much, perhaps someone could pass my contact to either Prosser or his estate's administrator, and they can decide if they want to talk to me.

Any help is much appreciated.

The name rings a very strong bell, but I can't quite put my finger on it at the moment. Should it finally emerge, I'll pass any information along....

Since I looked at this thread earlier, I keep thinking I've seen a book with that title Frank Herbert, Prophet of Dune somewhere ... possibly a used-book store. But maybe I simply saw a copy of Prophet of Dune with the author's name above the title.

Teresa: Tim O'Reilly wrote a similarly titled book using documents that Herbert had written. That may have been what you saw.

JR: Thanks!

Forgot to mention that I did find one other book that this author contributed to. Here it is. It references the Pinoak name on the back. It's published by iUniverse, and getting a hold of anyone there to help me track him down has been simply impossible. Does anyone know anyone at iUniverse?

Sadly, I don't think the second one is guy you're after, because it would seem to be the most promising. But perhaps something on list might be helpful, one of his other publishers, if they are still around...

Thanks, everyone. I actually found him last night. After I responded to the last message I went to Amazon and put his name in, and a book set to publish in 2010 (Branson Hauntings) came up. I shot the publisher an e-mail and Lee and I are now in contact.

Cul, that was the guy. I had found a few IUniverse books before and sent them e-mails to track the author down, but nobody there ever responded to me. The new publisher of Branson Hauntings and Missouri Hauntings was quick to forward my e-mail to him.

Thanks everyone who helped! He's offered to let me read his manuscript! (if he can find it - it might have been lost in a flood).
