The plot involves a young man living in a small town, somewhere like Scotland or Ireland, A huge metallic sphere appears near the town. The town is attacked by werewolf like creatures. Then the young man stumbles upon a cave that hides some ancient space ships and when he sits in one it connects to his brain through tentacles. He relives an ancient space battle of the doglike verse cat like humanoids. He ends up being taken on another ship by other creatures and in the end he fights with their weapons in a battle near his town. If anyone could help me with the title of this book i would greatly appreciate it.

The second is about a young man who begins the story as the son of an aristocrat and becomes involved with a rebel group that travels as a circus and learns martial arts ( which is banned) they end up winning the fight through the use of these teleportation screens as shields, they can shoot the screens forward and everything they hit is transported elsewhere. They cover their ships with the screens so all the attacks just disappear. They fight their way to the palace where the young man defeats the king by beheading him with one of the screens.

Thanks, i read them when i was younger and lived in a different area of the country. Now i find i wish i could read them again and i can't for the life of me remember the titles.

I'm only adding my two cents worth to let you know people are looking and thinking. I'm sorry to, they don't ring any bells.

Um
Your mention of metal spheres and Scotland rings a very faint bell regarding a TV series on UK TV some years back. Probably on between about 5 and 10 years ago. Can't remember the name of the series either :). Faint chance it was based on the book you are remembering.

Are you thinking of the Tripods?

Looked up the Tripods.
"The Tripods" in the making (vi)
Seems too early - mentioned as in the mid '80s - unless it was a repeat. What I am remembering was definitely sometime later than that - because I didn't have a TV back in the mid '80s, and no colour TV until the early '90s. :)

Thanks for looking. I appreciate the help. Sometimes i think about the books and i get pretty miserable. =) i could be wrong in thinking they were as good as i remember but i doubt it.

Terrahawks?

Er - am I being silly or isn't the second one "The Stars, My Destination" by Alfred Bester? Circus, teleportation, aristocrat. Seems to fit your description. It was kind of a sci-fi version of the Count of Monte Cristo.

I don't recognise the first one I'm afraid. Andre Norton has written a lot of "cat alien" type books. Does that name ring any bells?
