Hi,

Has anyone heard of or more or the point read the 1957 SF novel The Glass Bees by Enrst Junger?

It's part of the NYRB classic collection and its in stock here....so if anyone can shed any light I would appreciate it.

It's supposed to be a classic but I can't say that I've ever heard of it before. It certainly appears to be highly rated by the online community.

Cheers....:)

Here is someone's short take on the novel.....seems intriguing.

Ernst Jünger, The Glass Bees

EDIT: OK...confession time. I just realised this is the same Enrst Junger I first read about courtesy of a Roberto Bolano novel. Junger wrote what is widely regarded as the greatest WWI novel ever written, Storm Of Steel. I have that but only now have I made the connection that this is the same author. I'll likely get this but any comments would still be welcome.

Yes I noticed that too. The NYRB (new york review book club) edn. is very recent. I MAY pick it up today as I have some free bookshop vouchers via one of those loyalty VIP cards some stores have.

I may in fact be the first person here to read this SF classic... :)

Financial constraints prevent me from going for it at the moment but by next month I'll definitely purchase this book. In the meantime, courtesy of some "loyalty" vouchers, I was able to happily acquire some other truly excellent NYRB classics re: my latest Book Haul.

I have a remaining 5-6 NYRBs in my sights in particular in 2010 that focus on elements of the fantastic/weird.

This has been on my wish list for quite awhile, but I've never pulled the trigger on a purchase. It sounds like something I'd love.
