The TV show Flash Forward just started in our country and it's pretty intriguing so far, then I saw it was based on this guys novel. Please tell me is he a good writer and are his stories good? What are your thoughts on him as a writer?

He's a "thoughtful" hard SF writer - in that he takes a concept (such as the Flash-forward event) and explores its impact in a logical a rigorous fashion. Usually the story is bought to a “human level” in the context of a small group of view point characters.

He’s basically an “ideas” writer but his character work is warmer and better drawn than many similar writers.

On the whole his books are engaging and enjoyable but rarely (if ever) radically different enough to be stunning.

There are pretty much never explosions…

In general his books get an “I liked it” kind of rating from me.

IMO some of his later work feels a bit repetitive of concepts and ideas from his earlier efforts.

OK, I must have a look then. The show is quite a good one, I like the characters and some of them I feel sorry for them with the situations they are in.
