Hi,

I am trying to remember the name of a series I read about 18 years ago.
I only read the first book but I know there were more.
It was about a US civil war platoon/brigade (possibly the 7th cavelry)who get transferred somehow to another planet or possibly earth in a different dimension.

Anyway they are up against another race who as far as I can remember were cannibals.

Any help on name author etc. would be appreciated,

Thanks

I think that's the Lost Regiment series by William Fortschen, first book is called Rally Cry. I read the first couple of books in the series, they were reasonably entertaining.

Wikipedia's description:
"The series is based around a Union Army regiment from the American Civil War which is transported to an alien world by unknown means. There are other humans on this world, transported from different eras, but the world is ruled by a tyrannical race of aliens known as the Horde. There are several different Hordes throughout this planet - initially, Keane and his men encounter the Tugars, but in later books the Merki, Bantag, and others are mentioned or introduced into the plot. The men of the regiment attempt to use their relatively advanced technology to defeat the aliens and modernize the human societies. The Tugars are a clan of an alien race, also known as the Horde. In the world of Valennia, they inhabit the north-most realm. A once highly sophisticated and technical race, they harnessed "Tunnels of Light" to bring them across the universe to distant worlds. They are based upon the Mongol horde."

Sigh, another on beaten to. Also feel Rally Cry is the book you are looking for.

Rally Cry it is!! Thanks very much for the help.
I'll give it a read for old time sake. Also noticed when I looked up the authors bibliography he co-worte a book with Raymond Feist that I read a few years back. Was an easy entertaining read that was a bit more pacy than Feist's usual stuff of that time.
Maybe I've found a new author.

Thanks again:D

That's why I read Rally Cry, actually, I read the Feist collaboration Honoured Enemy and thought it was a good read and better than probably anything else Feist has written in the last decade so I thought I'd try some of Fortschen's solo work. Rally Cry was a fun read, but I preferred Honoured Enemy.
