Harry K. Brobst obit

Yes, I heard about this just earlier today; and I believe that he was the final remaining survivor of the group of people who knew Lovecraft. I have read the transcripts of the recordings of his memories of HPL, as delivered at the Centennial conference and in Lovecraft Studies, and they formed a very interesting look at Lovecraft in his final years, and with his passing, an era finally closes.

He lived a very full life and, from my understanding, accomplished much good along the way. May he rest in peace.

The Obit, though informative and thoughtful, gives no account of his friendship with HPL. How did they know each other? Did Brobst write for the magazines too?

Brobst was interested in weird fiction, and got HPL's address from Farnsworth Wright in about 1931. Later, he got a job as a nurse at a psychiatric hospital in Providence (in fact, I think it was Butler Hospital, where both HPL's parents died), and moved there in 1932.

AFAIK, he was the last surviving guest at HPL's funeral, and also one of the last people to see him alive, having visited him at Jane Brown Memorial Hospital just a couple of days before he died..
