***SPOILER*** (All the Dunk fans out there, Im spoiling this for you ;))

Has anyone else noted how much of a geek Dunk is? Has anyone noticed how much cooler ALL the other characters are in this story? Egg, in my opinion, is a HEAPS better character than Dunk. Sure, Dunk is the chivalrous (sp.) (wannabe?) knight, and hes the character we are meant to love. But..... boring. Egg, Raymun Fossoway, Lionel Baratheon, Baelor Breakspear, even Steely Pate and Maekar were cooler. It reminded me of a Sansa chapter, where everyone else is more interesting than the POV.

P.S. Im not criticising the story, really good, enjoyed it.

P.P.S. If the "Dunk is a geek" thread already exists, I couldnt find it.

I think it's more about him not being the sharpest blade in the armory rather than being geeky/boring.

Yeah, he's honest but naive and easily mislead. I'm not sure he's stupid as such, more just very unworldly. He's showing signs of being more forthright as time goes on.

GRRM loves to play with and develop characters - Sansa being a good example. So I'm sure by the time we reach the apex of Duncan's development he'll be less Grenn and more Barristan :)

@Southron Sword

You're thick as castle walls!

Sorry i couldn't help it....lol

Why am I thick as castle walls? It was half a joke. I know Dunk isnt that bright, but his personality is ordinary.

I was obviously joking as well. However, being that it went over your heads i guess it still stands...lol (just kidding)

But IMO, I think Dunk was cut from the same mold as Eddard Stark because he is loyal and upholds his honor to the extreme, sometimes to a fault. Ask yourself, how many men will be quick to stand up for a turncloak (Ser Useless Eustace). That's loyalty to the fullest! If you stand for nothing you'll fall for anything.

New theory - Ned isn't a Stark at all, he was sired by Dunk, who swept Ned's mother off her feet and secretly had an affair with her when he travels north (which I'm sure he will at some point)!

So what's Ned? The runt of the litter? Duncan's supposed to be nearly as tall as Gregor, though a different build completely.

I was thinking more along the lines of their devotion to duty, loyalty, and honor. Obviously, Ned was more polished but at the same time naive to things he's not accustomed to. I'm thinking he has similarities to a younger Eddard Stark, if there would have been a young Eddard story.

Sorry to post this here.

WINTERS SORROW, it's still your turn in the Who said that" thread :)

Dunk doesn't remind me very much of Ned. Dunk is larger and much more imposinging physically, and Ned is also a lot smarter. Both do have qualities that make them honorable men, that's about it.
