I quite fancy getting a collection of his shorts, but which to get? I used to have Beyond Lies the Wub in Gollancz but never got chance to read it, and someone has mentioned Minority Report and Other Stories-was that published during Dick's time or posthumously?

I have Beyond Lies the Wub at home, it's a great set of short stories. I think that there were five collections in the series and to be honest, i didn't think that any one was better than the other as you'll enjoy each of them.

Posthumously.

I've got two of them - The Philip K. Dick Reader and The Eye of Sybil. I haven't read the latter but the former is really good. It's a good one to buy too because it contains some of his most popular short fiction like Second Variety, We Can Remember It For You Wholesale, Sales Pitch and The Hanging Stranger.

I have read Second Variety and Other Stories and am currently reading Minority Report and Other Stories. I also have Paycheck and Other Stories though haven't read that. These are amazing books that also offer PKD's views on each of the stories, which were extracted from interviews, at the end of each book.

There's a five volume set that collects his stories chronologically (although I've no idea how complete it is). I'm planning on working my way backwards through it (thereby starting with his later stories):

Beyond Lies The Wub: Volume One Of The Collected Stories
Second Variety: Volume Two Of The Collected Stories
The Father-Thing: Volume Three Of The Collected Stories
Minority Report: Volume Four Of The Collected Stories
We Can Remember It For You Wholesale: Volume Five Of The Collected Stories

According to the product descriptions on Amazon they range as follows:

Volume 1: 1947 to 1952
Volume 2: 1952 to 1953
Volume 3: 1953 to 1954
Volume 4: 1954 to 1963
Volume 5: 1963 to 1981

Oh, and the UK covers are OK, with the exception of four which looks like it was changed to tie in with the film "Minority Report".

One should be sure not to buy both Second Variety and The Philip K. Dick Reader as they have almost all of their stories in common.

Subterranean Press is putting out brandy new (hard cover) versions
of "The Collected Stories Of Philip K. Dick" (1-5)-

It's going to be hard for me to pass on these even though I have the
Citadel/Twilight ones...

other favorite short story collections are-
"The Best Of Philip K. Dick" (1977)
"The Preserving Machine" (1969) &
"I Hope I Shall Arrive Soon" (1985)

That is a great news i have only collection of PKD Selected stories that have less 20 stories while volume 1 of the new complete series have 26 stories and only 2,3 i have read.

Subterranean might cost extra in trade as 40 dollars but its worth it because i have 3 great hardcovers of Jack Vance collections from them.

HC copies of PKD's short stories is very, very enticing!

Yeah i have already set aside the money and waiting only to finish my last PKD novel at home, smaller to read pile before i go for HC volume 1 collection.

I'll have to wait a bit. $40 a pop is pretty expensive, but damn, I do like the idea of these :)

Amazon offers the first volume of the Subterranean edition, The King of the Elves, for $29.20.

I also think it's worth mentioning that the Subterranean editions will contain two stories that were missing in the earlier editions.
