Has anyone tried the board game or the card game and what is your take on them. There is also a D20 role playing game and books. I guess that they are not quite the same as the source documents and what can be. What is your interpretation of these things?

I'm under the impression that you people know about these things. Well I'll be damned.

Patience, Grasshopper.....

Sometimes people don't respond to a particular post or thread for some days, then you get a flood of responses.

In my case, I haven't done any gaming since before the various Lovecraft-themed games were created, so I don't personally know. However, I do know people who play them, and from the descriptions, while taking some liberties, they are nonetheless very much in the spirit of the man's work in many ways, and often the people writing the books for these games are unbelievably knowledgeable about all sorts of things Lovecraftian.....

I want to collect all the Lovecraft-related books that there are other than his fiction, such as Joshi's biography of him, his poetry, letters, essays and whatever other literature there is by or about Lovecraft , as well as selected volumes of Mythos fiction and antecedent fiction in forms such as the Lovecraft's Library series from Hippocampus before I can even think about the assorted Lovecraftiana available in other forms. I used to think a plush Cthulhu would be cool to have, but I'd rather spend good money on, say, a collection of Lovecraft's letters than an ironic toy.

I have listened to a lot of music with Lovecraftian influences, especially various forms of extreme metal music. It's a very broad field, and I should post about it one day.

Indeed. And it's only one of several book-collecting projects. Still, it keeps me off drugs. :p

Hmmm... Reminds me of a comment I used to make when I read the works of William Blake: "Who the hell needs drugs when they can read this stuff?"....

I was just looking at some of the Lovecraft board games out there the other day as I go to a monthly board games club. The only trouble I think would be finding people who wanted to play...

I have the Arkham Horror board game and I was thinking about writing a piece of software that would offer a computer opponent, but I was a bit too lazy so far. I actually have fairly deep knowledge in basic algorithms and abstract data types like linked lists so I could make the Windows application if I wanted to drag myself through C# dot NET.

It looks like the USA has a lot of products under the subject of Cthulhu. Well this spring and summer I am going to sit back in a hammock on the acreage and read as much as I can, but I will focus mainly on the short stories. Now I didn't know what to think of all this other stuff such as the D20 game modules, etc. The artwork is really nice, I'll give them that much.

This could be one of the very rare excuses which might lead me to actually travel to America, which of course is not very far away.

If you want the application let me know. I could write it slowly and it would be ready in six months. It should just run on Windows Vista/7. As far as I know there shouldn't be a conflict unless I charge money, which obviously I would not, but you would need the board game and it's accessories which are numerous.

Edit: Make that Linux. I suspect that Windows is probably unfit for personal use. GTK which is the Linux Windows library is just as good. I've used Linux for years but lately I've used Windows because of iTunes. Anyway, if you people want some applications let me know. Enough said.

I remember playing the RPG "Call of Cthulhu" in my early teens, as a follow on to AD&D and MERP - it's what introduced myself and friends to Lovecraft.

So all that stuff has been out for a long time. Well honestly they might be better off trying to write modules for paganism because I want to start writing like Lovecraft, maybe with the help of Dagon.

I have one game that would fit here but it's a word game. It's called Unspeakable Words and is really rather fun.

And here is what Amazon has to say ... Decode the ancient secrets of R'lyeh by forming words with the letters you find in this sanity-sapping letter game. The more angles that appear in the words, the greater their mystical value, but beware! For each word that is created, you must roll a sanity check against its value to see if the word's power drives you mad! Cthulhu Mythos themed.

As for Plush Cthulhu ... I have a giant one (courtesy of JD). He and Meera my cat have something going that I don't ask too many questions about. He's great to hug or to read with.

There's a medium-sized one that sits on a chair in my bedroom. Meera objects rather violently if he deigns to share a seat with Giant Cthulhu. And there is small Cthulhu who sits on the dashboard of my car. Thought he might wish to see the world he's planning on taking over. Am not entirely sure if he's as keen after having been flooded with icky river water and ending up in the washing machine and then pegged out on the lne to dry.

And finally there is a red Christmas Cthulhu (again thanks to JD) on my desk at work. Am not entirely sure how he feels about that but he does have company ... a cat and a dragon.

Did a quick double-take on that one... at first I thought "rat and dragon", before my eyes focused again. Cordwainer Smith and Cthulhu? The mind boggles....!

You know .... I would like to read that one too. The mind does boggle. I shall see about getting a rat. There is enough space. Ummm ... one of you could try to write a crossover. I'll volunteer to edit or to stand over you claws out as may be required. ;)

Knivesout .... I shall see what may be done to oblige Sir. She's very possessive of him and will not allow anyone to share his chair. I always feel sorry for the humans who try to do so. If looks could kill .... I don't count not being human and all.

Dreams of being handed a plush Cthulhu......;)

Those pics of Meera will be interesting to view.
