I just noticed via the Locus website (the link to information about their upcoming awards banquet) that Roger Zelazny will be inducted into the SF Hall of Fame in Seattle this June. That detail doesn't yet seem to be on the SF Hall of Fame's website.

In part six of the "...And Call Me Roger" biography that I wrote (contained in The Road to Amber, volume 6 of The Collected Stories) I'd remarked that the SF Hall of Fame "has yet to honor him." I'll have to change that when volume 6 is reprinted.

Maybe issuing the six-volume Collected Stories helped nudge the relevant decision makers. Whatever, it's about time.

That is great news!

As a long-time connoisseur of SF short stories, I'm a little surprised to find that I am only familiar with Zelazny's novels, not his short fiction. So I've just acquired The Last Defender Of Camelot, prior to figuring out how to earmark funds for the 6-volume collection. :)

A great list of authors

  • Octavia E. Butler
  • Richard Matheson
  • Douglas Trumbull
  • Roger Zelazny
Since Zelazny didnt get a Grandmaster SFWA or World Fantasy Lifetime Achievment this is very fitting and nice to see. One of most literary talented SFF writers i have read.

Although i wonder why newer authors like Connie Willis got in before :p

How to be overlooked for so long? Ah well, better late than never, I suppose....and the Hall's web site has caught up with themselves, apparently...

This is exactly why i dont like the idea of giving Grandmaster award only to living writers.

Is Zelazny less of a master because he is dead and some of the authors of today are masters because they are alive.....
