Apologies in advance if this is the wrong place to post this, but I was hoping for some help. I've already asked this over on the eBay forum but am not making any headway, so I thought that as it was Sci-Fi related someone here might have some ideas.

The other day someone said to me that the writer Alex Scarrow has hidden a discount code for eBay inside his TIMERIDERS book.

I was told that on a certain page some of the words have capital letters where there shouldn't be capital letters, and if you collect them all in order, you get a code for a big discount on a single eBay purchase.

Does anyone else know anything about this?

Is it true?

Have you read Alex Scarrow's TIMERIDERS book? If so, did you see anything like this?

Do you know anyone who has read this book (it's about time travel, from what I hear and it's supposed to be pretty good, although that's not really my thing. Still, I might give it a go) and if so, did they notice anything?

Now I know what you're thinking,

"Why not just buy the book and find out?"

Well, the answer is that I don't have much access to money but I do have access to the internet, so I thought I'd research this first.

Any information gratefully received.

Or a clever plug by/for Scarrow.

I can assure you that I am not Mr Scarrow, nor anyone in his family, publishers or connected to him in any official capacity what-so-ever.

I'm just one person asking about something I find interesting. :)

Can you help me with this?

Have you read his book?

Our apologies if you are genuine Mitzy, but we do get a lot of sophisticated spammers here. Your post was flagged up yesterday and the Mods here thoroughly checked you out ;) otherwise this thread would be gone already.

I have heard of several Treasure Trove books along the lines of the 1979 book Masquerade by Kit Williams (which held clues as to the hidden location of a single golden hare) but nothing involving eBay.

There is absolutely nothing online about this (and lets face it, a viral marketing campaign such as you are suggesting would be all over the Internet like a bad rash.) If fact, it would seem to be the worst viral marketing campaign I've ever heard of. ;)

The other reason that I am still cynical of your request is because clearly the best course of action would be to ask 'someone' where he/she heard about it, since you could follow up that source, rather than ask around total strangers?

Fairy nuff.
I have two reasons for doing it this wy.
1. The person i got this from is one of those people who gets upset if she thinks your doubting her word on anything and I didn't want to get her worked up at me.
And 2 because I can't ask her for another week and a bit til she gets back from seeing her brother in France.

Anyway, I will ask her when she comes back and tell you what she said.

Make sure you do let us know now that you have piqued our interest.

And let's hope, if it is true, that they Capitals don't spell something like FOOLEDYOU. ;)

So don't put it to her that you are doubting her word -- let her know that you are interested enough to follow it up and want to know where she found the information so that you can learn more.

I really find it hard to imagine how all the various independent sellers at eBay could be convinced to get behind something like this. Therefore, if it were true there would surely be certain conditions attached, which it would be good to find out from some official source before buying the book, or, for that matter, spreading the word.

And your friend, even if perfectly honest, may have been hoaxed herself.

Oh, great!

Now I've found out that there is another TIMERIDERS book coming out and maybe the code is in that one. At least that would explain why nobody has said they've seen anything in the first book. Can someone tell me when this other book will be out? I know it's called Day of the Prelator but i don't know when its going on sale. I reckon if it's new I might be able to find it in my local bookshop and see if the code is there.

Seems unlikely that Fbay have it in there power to force a seller to discount a product. I could understand it if they were supposed to be offering a free listing but what's that going to be worth if anything.

Sounds like utter nonsense to me.

As codes go, this one seems far too simple (if it's been described correctly).

Okay, the book is YA, but that doesn't mean older folk can't or won't read them, or look for the relevant page(s).

I'm sorry to announce that there's no truth in it at all.

Earlier I received a text message from my friend which she sent yesterday morning.

She said: Code is: LOOF LIRPA

I'm going to go and hide now.

:eek::eek::eek:

Edit:

Now I feel stupid. I used an internet anagram finder and it didn't find that anagram; probably the most obvious.

Anyway, now that you've found our website, you can come back and tell us about the books that you CAN afford to read.
